Hello everyone,

I recently upgraded my connection to 2meg on AOL, I need to reconfigure my network but im unsure if its possible to connect to the AOL service twice using differant screen names, i know u cannot sign on with the same screen name twice, if u cant ill need to ditch my router and set up a master pc to share the connection which cost me alot and will mean alot of mucking around with wires and other such malarky.

In theory i want to be able to have my pcs running aol sharing the connection thru the router and each pc signed on using a differant screen name which will mean the pc u wish to use internet will have to be on rather than any other

Cheers lad's and laddette's..

You cannot be signed onto two screen names from the same account simultaniously. Which, in essence, means the computer you want for internet needs to be signed on to AOL. If you want two computers connected to the internet, you'll need two accounts.

Applies to the UK...

Create a new screen name in lowercase that's 5-8 letters long. Set the router's username to that name @aol.com (all lowercase - ie: adsl12345@aol.com) enter the password.

The router should connect on that.

In the AOL software set it to connect "via TCP/IP" or "via another ISP/Lan connection" then connect with the different username.

This works here so it should work for you. If not, PM me your email address and I will see if I can help you a bit more.

that is weird... my dad lives on the other side of town and he pays for AOL and i live with my mom and she pays for a cable company over here (she doenst pay for aol at all) and me and my dad can get on the computer at the same time, along with my sister who lives with him, and along with another computer that is in in my house, all under the same aol account, and where i live, the 2 are using the same router, and i did it with no problem... it just automatically did it all...

thanks for ya help guys, ive set it up now with the username and password set up on the router and myt connection is now shared on both computers.

Incedentally, AOL websites list the routers tht work with oal i use one tht is not aparently "supported" by aol and it works fine so dont feel u need to buy expensive netgear routers when a nicde D-Link 640 works fine for fraction of the price.
