dual processors are for workstation applications like Auto-Cad where you can take advantage of multi-threading.
If you are planning on gaming with the machine, you would MUCH better off using an AMD FX-55 processor, which is most definetly the best processor around.
And like the guy above me said, you need to give us a price range

Right, well, here you go. With no specific budget:
CPU: AMD 64 (the one above, the FX thingy)
RAM: Corsair Performance DDR (DDR 400, 1024mb)
GPU: ATI Radeon x800pro (or xt) [Definitely the best out there, although some benckmarks will tell otherwise because they don't take into account cetain things]
MoBo: Go for a LANParty board (nice for case mods) with at least an N-FOrce 2 (n-force 3 is best) chipset.
Hard Drive: Get a Seagate or Maxtor, stay away from Western DIgital. I never liked them, and both my WD HDs have failed. Probably a 120Gb is enough, but having a 200Gb would be nice. Make sure they are SATA (not just ATA), and spin at 7,200 RPM.
Optical Drives: Just get a Combo CD-RW/DVD drive, or if you really want, get the DVD-RW drive. (Make sure its dual-layer, and supports both DVD+RW and DVD-RW)
Case: Basically any case would be good, but for a REALLY Nice case with great cooling, check out the
Asus Vento 3600
I hope this has helped

In the uk? try
www.aria.co.uk
or
www.overclockers.co.uk
They are both good, although I think aria is slightly cheaper.

Erm if money isn't a problem I'd agree with most of nicks except:
Motherboard: Gigabyte nForce 4 SLI (its morning and I forget the model number, kn8x something a rather)
Graphics: 2 x nVidia 6800 ultras, more than enough gpu power, and hey if one screws up, you still have a good one left!
Case: to be honest splash out here, a greta case will last. Lian li has always been my avourite simply because they have so many time saving features to work with and ease of use when swapping out hardware. (Everything is modular, keyboard tray, drive bays, the only part i cna't remove on mine is the main housing for the 5 1/4" bays

)
But again depends on budget too.
keyboard/mouse: Logitech - all the way. For comfort, features and just plain looks beats anything else hands down. The only other brand i'd consider would be genius (I hate ms keyboards, for ergonomic boards they make the wrists hurt like hell)

I know this stuff like the back of my hand, its my passion, so PM me and Ill tell you everything you need to know

.
The only thing I'm unsure of is a PSU (power supply unit) that can handle all this, someone out there whose good with PCs get back to me.
The system will be expensive, no doubt, but well worth it as it will be a PC that could last you 5 or 6 years (unless theres some new super breakthrough that gives ultra cheap 1 terahertz crads

)
Ah I forgot to add:
Keyboard: Logitech Di Novo
Mouse: Logitech MX1000
Case: Lian Li
And Gigs you werent wrong, just not uber

@Gigs
I don't agree with you GPU choice (Im kinda anti-Nvidia, but that may change...) But, your KB/Mouse combo as a logitech is EXACTLY right. Forget the microsoft stuff, they may as well call it bulky-hard. Its a misnomer.
@Sage
JEESUS CHRIST! Thats a HELL of a lot of money going into that! When he said money wasn't an object, I doubt he meant that he was planning to rob a bank! But respect for the 512mb card. Not that he needs it, my 9500PRO (128mb) runs HL2 and Doom 3 lag free (fraps tells me about 15 fps in high-action parts), at high settings and thats almost 2 years old now!
Oh and man, NOTHING is going to adequately power all that stuff on its own. In fact, you'd need more 4-PIN molex connectors inside that to power my HOUSE. But If I may, a nice set of PSUs are available at Antec (the TRU-BLUE series is pretty too

)
Edit: @Gigs
I also agree that Lian-Li is a great case manufacturer, but this Asus case is really something else. It depends on whether you want to go with the brushed aluminium look, or a really easily accessable, good looking, AWESOME cooling case. (Not that Lian Li isn't good to cool, but this thing looks like it was ripped off of a harrier jet's engines, and uses the thrust from the fans to cool the system.)
