Hi guys,

I have a SE P900 since 9th March 2004. I have always been receiving SMS with the display which says "You have a new message". Whereas in K700 and others the sender's name appears if he is in your contacts.

Anybody, throw some light. Definitely by now technology should be advance to this extent at least.

Sometimes it depends on whether you have the full international and std code in your contacts.
I have noticed that if you have a mix i.e. (for the isle of man) 07624 xxxxxx and xxxxxx is the mobile number without the std code then sometimes it will display new message, if I have the full hit ( i.e +44 xxxx xxxxxx) then it will display the contacts name. Having two contacts with the same name but with with one number with just the short mobile number and another with the full number can confuse it as well.

Yes I have the benefit of both numbers and multiple names in contacts when syncing both from a mac and a pc. Bizarre but that's life.

I recall seeing a post here that said having contacts on the SIM and phone could cause this problem.

@ ceedee, I've noticed the same thing. I've had my P910i for over a month now and I would always just get "You have 1 new message". I wish it would display at least who it's from. My k700i would say "Text message received from xxxxxx" and even show the picture if you put one in the contacts.

Are there any applications which the Pxxx could use to "mimic" that?

Don't know if it applies to se phones but on a Panasonic I had before it went beserk if I had the contact on both Sim and phone and didn't display anything. So it might just be like mention earlier that this is the problem.
