Could someone enlighten a poor Treo-crossover as to why the sync acts up on me?

Since SE doesn't support categories in the way Palm/Outlook/CE/whomever does I have defined them into folders to be able to work my agenda as efficiently as possible. I've also set some of my appointments as reminders, since they are of the no-time, just an alarm variety. All these changes are made in the phone. Then I sync.

What then happens is that all the changes I've made (changing folder from "unsorted" to "project", changing from "meeting"-type of item to "reminder"-type of item for instance) are reverted to their original state. Changeo Presto - my book is full of same-colored, non-filterable items.

Annoying to say the least... So, I've tried a forced sync. That works out fine - at least until the next time I do a sync. Then all the items are back as they where.

I'm running the latest version of firmware, as updated by the service. I've tried taking away non-standard characters in the folder names (, , ). To no avail. I've tried to delete the items in the phone and in outlook respectively. And it still won't work. The quick and dirty here is of course to always force a "phone overwrites pc", but since a lot of appointments come in via the server that is really not an option for me.

I hope that some bright mind out there has a solution to this, because it's getting really really old...

Which brings me to a second, sort of related question: what PIM do you folks recommend? 'Cause this device is really, *really* in need of a good PIM... Coming from PalmOne and Datebk5 with all that implies, the SE PIM experience is a bit... disappointing really...

I had the same issue, (but with P900 and Outlook 2K) - very repeatable, but SE support could not reproduce the fault. I cured the problem in the end by reverting to an older version of the Sony Synchronisation software, (v.2.4.1 from memory, but I can't check right now as I'm at work).
The loss of categories was totally repeatable even if phone was forced to overwrite outlook or any other given combination of synch settings.
I'm locked to UK Orange - how about you?

The phone is from Voda, but unlocked. However, I have actually managed to solve the problem (so far at least...) by doing a forced sync to the phone (computer overwrites), doing all the changes I want in in the phone, archiving all calendar items in Outlook (i.e. getting a clean calendar - not a thing you see everyday...) and then having the phone forcing an overwrite into the PC.

An now (while writing this) I just made another (fourth this day) sync and everything went FUBAR... HOW DIFFICULT CAN IT BE? All other PDA's I've EVER used - and that's a lot - has managed to sync to Outlook without anything but minor hassles.

Oh well - back to the drawing board...

Hi,
Yes had the same problem. Got a reply back from SE saying they will not fix the recurring items sync with Outlook and also the changing a reminder to an appointment with same start/end time. Damn annoying.

As for the categories I checked Esato last week and noticed someone else had the problem. It seems that if you have categories set against calendar items in Outlook and Sync the P910 gets confused and (in my case) removed my categories on the P910 and set all calendar entries in the P910 to unfiled.

I got round this by simply not using categories within outlook for calendar items. Wish it could be a better answer but it can't.

However, the same guy did mention that he had set-up categories against contacts and these had been sync'd correctly. I have done the same and strangely it seems to have worked.

So categories seem to work with contacts but not calendar items
