Your pagefile may be corrupt, and you may need to re-create it. For Win2k right click on My Computer Icon on desktop, choose Properties?Advanced>Performance Options, and try changing the pagefile size to zero, reboot, then change it to a value that is appropriate.

Other than that, dunno - give some more details on your setup, i.e. physical memory, OS, then we can be of more help.

I don't remember, I haven't used 98 for years. There will certainly be a way to change the pagefile size, just look up pagefile and virtual memory in the help file.

Before you do that, i suggest you remove all unnecessary software/data from the hard drive, to free up space so that your virtual memory has enough room to breathe again.

Also clean out your temporary internet files! If you are still using Win98, i suggest its time to upgrade mate!
If @ all possible, add a second hardrive to your system transfer all your data across to the new hard drive and keep just software on the main drive.

You could also go to:

Start--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->Disk Cleanup

I know what's wrong with you computer... You're using Windows
Lol jokes aside... Everything that the smart guys before me have said seems like the right things to do. Or maybe you could just buy a new computer. It's not as cheap as their suggestions but if you're using Win'98 it may be time for an upgrade

In win98, the pagefile size is under 'virtual memory' which can be found by right-clicking on 'My Computer' and selecting the 'peformance' tab, if I remember correctly.

But I agree with the other guys, it sounds like you need to free up some disk space. It also sounds like you need more physical memory if your motherboard will take it so as to reduce the frequency that your PC needs to use virtual memory, or at least the amount of virtual memory that it needs.

If your PC has on-board graphics, buying a cheap graphics card might help as well, since the graphics chip won't be sharing your main memory anymore (or at least not as much of it)!
