Because I din't the other day and when I put the stick back in the phone said damaged memorystick and all my installed programs didn't run... Even after several resets with and without the stick in the phone...
All my files and progs was still on the stick but the phone could just not find them...
Good thing I had a total backup so now my phone is just fine again, but I thought that there should no problems with taking the stick out without turning off the phone...?¿?

It's certainly not a good idea. If the phone is reading from or writing to the card when you take it out, the OS can get confused which sounds exactly like what happened to you.
There's also a small chance that it could permenantly damage the cards memory, so I'd make sure the phone's switched off in future just to be on the safe side

Then you've been lucky
Seriously, it's not a good idea to take that kind of removable storage out while the device is switched on. It's roughly equivalent to taking a floppy disk out of your PC whilst saving something on it. You end up with incomplete data on the disk which your PC will probably be totally unable to read.

Well, I never install any apps or anything to the cards, only ever use them for videos and music etc, so if thats the case, you CAN remove and instert them on while the phone is on. Its just not the best plan to do so when you've got apps running (look at sman) and/or listed in the apps list.

You can Hotswap, thats why its accessible & not under the battery like Nokias.
I frequently remove & switch Duos and have NEVER turned the phone off and have NEVER had a problem, thats not just luck.
The only problem I can see is if its writing or modifying/moving files when u remove it.

Flash memory is made to hotswap. There are caps and resistors on the board to prevent spikes. Chances are, your stick was defective in the first place. I've hotswapped memory from all sorts of devices w/o powering them off. (granted on a laptop, its a good idea to unmount the filesystem before removing it)
I've had both the P800 and the P910i and do it on both w/o the slightest problems.
