Why sometimes sms in P910 doesn't show the sender name, shows only number? How can I solve that?

Hi,
Noticed this with the P900 and only occasionally with the P910 however, its become worse since I changed all my numbers to be in the format + () (e.g. +46 (783) 123456)

Outlook prefers this format and it worked very well with the Neonode I had for a while.

The P910 handles it for phone numbers in coming as it seems to strip the none numeric characters off to do a match however, it doesn't do this in the SMS Sent box and so you can't see the number. The Inbox is OK as the characters are again stripped on sending.

Pain in ther a*se to have it work in one instance and not the other, something else the SE testers need to look into.

on my P910, it sometimes takes several seconds to display the sender's name on a received message and/or recipient's name on a sent message. i have no idea about what the cause of the delay is, but in due time the name does appear. strange...

Actually, I seem to remember that Pxxx does that *IF* you have the number stored both in the phone's memory *AND* on the SIM-card.

Personally, I've stripped the card of any numbers I had, and stored everything in phone's memory. It's easier, and I do back it up regularly... like any of you should!

Once I did that, all my SMS-es showed up perfectly, by name, if the name
is in the address book. Mind you, there's a bug in the SMS program which manifests itself when you're sending a message to more than one recipient.
Basically, when you look at the saved message in "Sent" you will only see
the phone numbers, not the names.

well i don't have any numbers stored on my SIM but it does happen occasionally. nothing too disconcerting as it is just a short delay.

but as you say, if a msg is sent to multiple recipients, then only the numbers are displayed.

I dont' know - my P910i doesn't do that.

The other thing is that there may be a number of factors contributing to it. One would be that you've got a large number of SMS-es in the inbox and it may take a while to identify which number corresponds to what name. If it's not that - then it's something else - obviously! Second would be to try to compress your address book. Might work, might not

no, i don't keep SMS messages so i rarely have more than a handful stored. and i regularly compress my address book with sman.

i tend to think that it may have more to do with the number of contacts stored in the address book. since there are a few thousand stored, maybe it needs a little more time to go through it.

in any case, it doesn't bother me at all. just more of an FYI to other P910 users who may think there is a problem with their phones.
