Same problem here. I've got like 600 SMS's I would like to save, but how? Need to get my P900 fixed and I just know they will wipe the phone.

S&W SMS Folder Manager 2.01 worked in getting my sms's from my phone to my computer. Saves them as xml.

Try SMSChat. It saves them as .txt
You don't save them as inbox or outbox folders. Instead you can save them either chronologically or by a certain contact. In the latter case your smses (received and sent) appear as a chat, hence the name.
The other difference is that the author of SMSChat gives great support (email his a request and it will be implemented in the next version), the support for SMS Manager is nonexistant.
You can aso try DesktopMessage. It offers some sort of a synchronization of you sms messages.
