i have noticed all these new phones comming out with 3,5,7 million pixel and personally i think its stupid. Why? a phone s ment to be to comunicate and camera phones while the idea is brillaint to have a camera in a phone, its just for jokes tho. now i have seen new phones which have optical zoom and that samsung one with the massive lens. i think these take the piss. why are mobiles trying to replace digital cameras?

My opinion is that the average person will prefer to carry one single device that can meet as many needs as possible.

The convenience of that (even if you have to trade off some serious functionality) is what powers this new drive to put as many things as possible in mobile phones.

I personally wouldn't like to carry around two seperate devices when i can get the functionalithes of two in one! Although this won't apply to professional photographers and people like them. This message was posted from a T230

It's like having a Swiss knife.

Suits about 70% of needs of the people.

Serious contractors and the like would need the real tools...and maybe a Swiss knife as a back-up.

Cameraphones are the same.

Hybrids w/ cameras are even better.

Most people don't need, or want, to carry a lot of devices. I know I don't.

So for "damn, I wish I brought my camera" moments, phone cams are better suited to capturing those memories.

all-in-one devices are becoming common nowadays because people find them more convenient and in many cases more economical.

@jagger2k
So, what's your objection then if nowadays phones have good cameras?

The digital technology in the past years forwarding to a convergence of some devices to be an all-in-one device. Remember the convergence of PDA and mobile phone that becoming a PDA-phone or smartphone, and the digital camera and mobile phone becoming a camera phone, and also a PDA-phone or smartphone equipped with digital camera.

There's nothing wrong if mobile phone manufacturers produce camera phone with better camera, even optical zoom as introduced by a Motorola, and I believe that digital camera manufacturers will still improve their products, and we, as the end-user, will have many choices in our life.

Finally, it's up to you to have or not a phone, a digital camera, a PDA, a music player, a TV Tuner, a walkman, an iPod, a handy-talky, or simply a single device that equipped with all those functions.
