AFAIK its a firmware issue. New firmware gives you the white background with black fonts.
The one in the picture may even be running old T610 firmware, since the font is different and the colours are inverted.

If you can read the clock when the keypad is locked, just hit either + or - on the side of the phone to make the backlight come on for a few seconds, just enough to tell the time.

yeah i did know that(+ / - keys)...in fact i knew this since i had my t610

...what i mean is that with black background and white numbers you wouldnt have to press the + / - keys, it would be easier to look at the hour with black background cause the numbers would contrast a lot more
by the way...when I lock the keypad and then its starts the screensaver ..and then the clock..sometimes i notice that the clock lights up itself for no reason... ???

Really ? i could never see my T610's screen unless i was in a dark room. Outdoors in bright sunlight, forget it, i couldnt read a thing on the T610's screen.
My K700i lights up on its own every now and then too. I forget the reason someone came up for it why, but it has been mentioned on Esato before. Personally i think its just a firmware bug.

I have a t610 and a k700i next to each other, and I can tell you the k700i is much much more visible, thanks to the reversed colors!
etaab: it's not a bug, it only occurs when you didn't lock your keypad. It's a kind of "reminder" that you didn't lock it
