I've done a bit of "research", and I think I've found a pattern.
Often, branded K700i's can't turn off the camerasound.
It seems that the unbranded K700i's that has PlayNow as the first icon in the menu, can NOT turn off camerasound on mute, but the ones that doesn't have PlayNow, but Sony Ericsson as the first icon in the menu, CAN turn off the camerasound. I've checked this with several K700i's, but would you check yours and see if this is true ?

But the point is if you have PlayNow or Sony Ericsson as the top left icon in your menu ?

I dont know anyone with a K700i with the PlayNow icon.
The PlayNow icon was SE's venture into music downloads to your phone. They scrapped the idea. Apparently its back though for the K750 and W800.
Some phones have the shutter sound forced on them because of the new firmware. In new firmware SE force the camera sound to play when you press the shutter key. The ones without the sound ( when you silence the phone ) are the ones running old firmware.

it lies in the EMEA_ some emea's dont have that. it is because it is mandatory in some countries... its in the firmware. nothing related to play now or SE icon.
(i think so)

Why would you want to mute the camera sound anyway !!
I , like 99% of parents am glad that it is there.
Surly it cannot be that annoying.
