Hi

A friend of mine has a T610 (no idea what firmware)
Whenever he changes the SIM card on his fone, all his SMS inbox gets erased (din try with the same with MMS)

Is this a known problem or is there a setting that he kinda missed ?

I think you can't do much about it. An option would be to save those sms to the sim This message was posted from a T230

Not a problem, its a know fact in SE phones without memory cards. As othey guy say if you want to store your sms you must save them in your PC or in your SIM before a SIMīs change.

It's a security feature of your phone.

H m m m . . . what I know is that ALL the SMS stored with a certain SIM - goes with it (stored), when taken or being replaced with another one (SIM) with a certain fone So, it is just prident to say that - it's NORMAL !

this is not a "fault" as such... but simply a security feature that harks back to the old days of Ericsson.

In the long and distant past of Mobile phones, when an incomming SMS came through, it would be stored in the SIM card immeadiatly. Should the phone become lost, the SIM can be cancelled, and noone can get hold of your "private" SMS.

When ericsson started adding a phone memory for SMS, there was some concern in some quarters that a confidential SMSs can be recovered from stolen phones (simply by changing the SIM to a valid one). So it was decided that the phone should delete all SMS stored in phone memory upon the change of SIMs.

Not all phones actually deleted the SMS - the T68i woudl at first "hide" the SMS from display when a new SIM was inserted, and only delete the old SMS when a new SMS came through. Therefore, provided you didnt recieve a new text message whilst the new SIM was used, you can put back your old sim, and your messages are restored.

This littel bug/feature was fixed in the t610.

However, newer SE phones (all the P series, and the K700/S700, etc) do not delete the SMS on SIM change.
