Attended the CTIA Wireless Convention in New Orleans, Louisana this week curtosey of Sony Ericsson. What a trip and what a town.... If you like to party, New Orleans is the place to go. Nothing is taboo and "Excess" is the "operative word" of the moment...

Only 293 miles from my local gas station in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the front door of the [size=huge][color=blue]GARDEN DISTRICT HOTEL[/size][/color] in New Orleans....time of arrival...7:36 p.m. at my current speed of rolling in the parking lot....at 3:00 p.m. in Tuscaloosa. WoW!! Current wireless technology has really morphed our "little cell phones" into complete communication, GPS mapping navigators and multimedia pocket computers. My iMate JAM with its 416mhz processor, 128mb of onboard RAM and Pocket PC Operating System is the current "Bleeding Edge" of pocketable GSM cell phones. So, what does 2005 have in store for all of us Gadget Freaks????? Read on for my impressions and thoughts on what I saw and heard about the upcoming devices. I tried to cover those companies I saw something new and interesting at..but I'm sure I missed something of interest to some of you, however, I did try to get what I feel are the "HOT!!" new phones and devices from the companies.

Arriving at the Garden District Hotel at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, I drove up with ZERO anxiety and problems. GPS Bluetooth Navigation Software is worth its weight in gold and the devices that run it......[color=red]BLEEDING EDGE!![/COLOR] I highly recommend this hotel for moderate rates, excellent service and large clean suites...



First up....my host....Sony Ericsson...

Well,,,,,Sony Ericsson was very nice to comp my trip to the convention...but its hospitality ended at the convention floor....NO PHOTOS PLEASE!! But don't fear......BengalBoy was allowed to photograph and play with the latest cell phone offerings coming from SE this year. The K750i and W800 cell phones/multimedia devices.

[color=blue]K750i[/color]

The K750i is the new upgrade of the K700i TriBand GSM cell phone. Boasting a 2 MegaPixel CMOS sensor camera and support for up too 2gb of Duo Pro memory....the K750i is a whole lot of fun in a very T630 esq form factor. I was only allowed to briefly use and photograph the phone. There were only a few available for use and those had to be secured from SE employees. My overall impression of the phone was one of wonder??? Why ditch the K700's great styling for a T630 like appearance??? Love the hardware, but don't like the regression in style and design.... Battery size is 900 mAh.....






Overall, the menus and features are just like the K700i with the exception of reduced onboard memory to 32mb and the addition of Duo Pro support all the way up to 2gb.. It also has a much better camera and 2 LEDs for flash use. Photos are EXCELLENT!! I didn't think to take one and transfer it to my device quickly...but for such a tiny, tiny phone...it sure offers alot. It is supposed to ship with a 128mb Duo according to my source...but he wasn't definite about that...

[color=blue]W800 WalkMan Phone[/color]



The hardest to get and most anticipated phone coming from Sony Ericsson is the new W800 "WalkMan" phone. One of only 3 in the United States, I spent some quality time with it... It ships with a 512mb Duo Pro card and is capable of over 30 hours of continuous music when set into "WalkMan Mode" with the cell phone radios turned off....10 hours if the phone features are left on. It will come in multiple colors and has a more "Hip" styling and appearance than the K750i..... I was told it may/maynot have the auto focus feature of the 750i camera....but honestly my SE source did not know much about it and its differences from the K750i due to his limited exposure to it..... It to has a 2 MegaPixel CMOS camera and 32mb of onboard memory.....TriBand GSM cell phone with bluetooth and infrared...













Camera View is like the S700i as well as settings menu....



Menus use the "Spot Light" for highlighting your desired function...



Other things I saw at SE were a "ROBOT" bluetooth camera that you can control with your P910a or other compatible bluetooth Sony Ericsson phone. It was in the exhibit and unfortunately out of my camera's lens.... But, a photo of the SE "Mini" was available. Most all of the companies were featuring "Bluetooth Enabled Cars" as center pieces of their exhibits....



Finally, Sony Ericsson treated its guests to a night of music and fun at the "House of Blues".......



[size=huge][color=blue]MOTOROLA...[/color][/size]



Motorola has been on a "HOT STREAK" lately with the RaZr and MPx series of devices......well.....the RaZR and MPx220 maybe.... but chalk another one up to the company....the new [size=huge][color=gray]PeBl[/size][/color]......



The PeBl is an extension of the design of the new RaZr....."Bleeding Edge" with a smooth metal form factor.. very Fung Shwei..... organic, minimalistic, and yet "Bleeding Edge"...I predict another HUGE HIT for Motorola. This phone is all about style but still has some really nice hardware goodies like EDGE, 262,000 color screen, version 1.2 bluetooth and a "TRUE VOICEDIAL" operation. Like the MPx and MPx220, the PeBl will use Voice Signal's Voice Commander program for dialing from contacts and controling some applications....

Home Vido Conference Phone.....



A very nice Bluetooth Solution for Motorcycle Riders....... This headset mounts to the helmet for motorcycle use....and then the bluetooth module detatches for use with a personal headset... I was told the price will be $140 and that it is expected to start shipping in the very near future......read weeks....












I really liked this headset solution for motorcylces...and it doubles as your personal headset as well....

The Motorola Jaguar featuring the "Bluetooth Solution"....





I also spoke to the MPx guys...sorry, but no information on the RaZrBerry......and the MPx is going to continue on in its current hardware set..... See my CTIA review on Pocket PC devices for more on that conversation....

Nokia didn't really have anything I found interesting...just 9500 Communicators and 9300 Communicators. They did have a "BanGin Mini" though.......







The "Nokia Mini"......what a "Off the Wall" car.....bluetooth featured once again by a major cell phone company in a motor vehicle.....

SamSung was by far the most impressive and "Bleeding Edge" company I visited. It has EVERYTHING!! Video, Satellite, and HUGE MEGAPIXEL CAMERAS!!

SamSung Camcorder Phone with swiveling screen...





SamSung Voice to Text Messaging phone. This device is coming to market. SMS voice to text messaging only.....





SamSung's Bad Boy 7 MegaPixel Camera Phone.....





3GB HardDrive Cell phone....

3 MegaPixel Optical Zoom Phone......

The SamSung "WonderFall".... like a waterfall the water (or whatever it was) can be controlled to make words, patterns, etc... it was huge and the best entrance at the show of any company...



But SamSung didn't stop there...they also had continuous live entertainment that was awesome to watch and listen too...







Overall I was most impressed with SamSung and its offerings. This company means business and was "BengalBoy's Bleeding Edge Selection" for the company everyone should watch out for....

[size=huge][color=blue]POCKET PC DEVICES FOR THE "BLEEDING EDGE"....[/size][/color]

I have created a thread in the Pocket PC forum regarding what I saw for these devices....the ones I consider the watermark for Wireless Communication. Morphing Computers with Cell Phones the Pocket PC OS will be upgraded to Pocket PC 2005 later this year which will probably be introduced on the upcoming HTC "Universal" otherwise known as the MDA IV. That device was not available...but here are photos of the BenQ P50 and SamSung I730. WiFi, EVDO, QWERTY Board, MegaPixel Cameras, Bluetooth, 3G capability, GPS Navigation, etc.....these devices are the very pinnicle of "Bleeding Edge".....

Finally...... a little trip to Harrah's for some BlackJack... The BengalBoy was already "21":haveadrin :haveadrin Thanks Sony Ericsson, I loved my opportunity to attend CTIA 2005 and see the new stuff. What a Thrill!! Can't wait for CTIA 2006 and the certain advancement of 3G devices and feature laden cell phones...

Glad you fellows like it..... Looks like next year for something to replace the P900..... only a facelift this year. EDGE I believe is coming to the 900 series...
