I'm from Greece & i'm on Vodafone GR!I read a lot of posts from users that they can't use their MP3 ringtones that they downloaded from Vodafone Live!But i don't have the same problem!I've a S700i(i bought it unbranded)& i can use them as alarm sounds or for ringtones!By the way,do the branded S700i have the icons & generally the menus of Vodafone LIVE?And last of all,the branded devices only aren't permitted to use MP3 as ringtones that their users downloaded from Vodafone Live?

You misunderstood. In a branded handset, if you transfer an mp3 from pc to your phone, this mp3 cannot be set as ringtone. Once downloaded from voda website are fine afaik. This message was posted from a K500

I'm very happy to live in a country that most of the cell phones are unbranded...

Question: why such provider as Vodafone do some limitation to their branded phones? And why SE (or other manufacturers) has no objection about this limitation? Because IMO this limitation makes phone can't be used to its maximum capability and it may make the brand image get worse.

Because that is not for them to decide, it's not the manufactures whom are responsible, it is the local network suppliers.

When you buy a branded phone, you get it cheaper.
In return the operators brand the phones and may set some limitations like Voda did with mp3 ringtones. This is to force you as customer to buy ringtones from them.

Theres nothing wrong with this, neither from the operator, the user or from S//E's point of view.

Its your descision as customer, you cant get anything for nothing. If you dont want branding or limitations, then simply pay the full amount for the phone and get an unbranded one.

I think the networks attitude to content provision is tightarsed. But as long as they don't stop me from bt'ing files to my branded phone from me computer then it doesn't affect me personally, and I will probably keep buying branded!

Branding is a sales tool that works out for all parties invlved so it'll likely be a growing phenomenon
