Hello,
I am new to Sony Ericsson phones but not to cell phones in general. I have a self confessed addiction to technology, I usually average about 3 cell phones and or PDA phones per year, having tried at least one model from most of the manufactures that are available in the US.

Having been restricted by the abysmal choices for new phone models at Sprint, I switched to T-Mobile, I have always felt that the CDMA technology that Sprint uses is superior to GSM from a security standpoint, but after checking out a friends GSM phone a while back and seeing the ability to switch phones and back up to a SIM card, it just seemed the proper way to do it, activate the SIM, not the phone, and allow the customer greater options.

Anyway, I have been a T-Mobile customer for about 10 months, and found out that I can use just about any GSM phone, T-Mobile might not support all features, but I don’t care, I just sold my Sidekick 2 because it kept me to “connected” with e-mail coming in 24/7, I was looking for something a little simpler, just basic phone service and text messaging and the ability to connect to my Mac and sync up my contacts and calenders via Bluetooth.

I purchased a Sony Ericsson Z600. I am totally impressed by the build quality and features of this phone, like a lot of things that have a Sony influence, the quality and attention to detail show.

I do have a question about the Z600:
When you receive a call, the outside display shows the number, but when you open the flip, the inside display “Blinks” it goes dark for a second and then comes on. I don’t know how else to explain it, and I don’t know if this is normal for a SE clamshell phones because I have never owned one before. The flip/clamshell phones that I have owned in the past have not done this, at least that I noticed.

This web site is great, I originally came across it just for comparing cell phone models, but after finding a link in the forum to a powerful piece of software to connect my Z600 to my Mac I feel that I have just scratched the surface.

One more thing, how do I get a picture of my phone to show up next my name? Are there stock photos available or do I have to find my own?

Do you have active flip turned on? Try turning active flip off and see if that helps alleviate the problem. Basically, when you turn it off, you're still able to flip the phone open when somebody calls, and you have to answer by hitting the "Yes" (or the left) soft key.

In order to add a pic to a contact, just "View & Edit" the contact, and from there you should be able to add a pic to that specific caller. Coincidentally, this feature will only work with the active flip off as you will not be able to see a pic through the outer display and it wouldn't show if you flip the phone open with active flip on (as this would automatically answer the call).

Welcome to esato! In regards to the blinking screen, when the phone is closed the internal screen is turned off. When you open the phone there is a very short delay with the screen turning on. This is normal and has never been a problem for me. This message was posted from a Z600

I was actually wondering about the picture of the phone for the forum, not on the phone itself.
I looked in the "Settings" of my SE Z600 and could not find anything about the active flip, I also checked in the profile that I am using and could not find anything there about active flip, could it be called something other than active flip?

Twerg,
Thanks for the welcome! I thought it might be normal, the phone seems to function perfectly otherwise. Do you use the chatboard to post on your phone?

for the forum, just edit your preferences and select which phone you want to use as an avatar

I once bought a chatboard for my z600 but it was not compatable, different connector pins. You will find the active flip in the calls option, labeled open to answer. This message was posted from a Z600

Sorry, at least on mine, it is under Calls/Manage calls/Open to answer. Not in Calls/Options.
