> HELP - Can't Synch P910 to Outlook
Bookmark topic
Hi all,
I have a Sony Ericsson P910a cell phone and I am completely unable to synchronize with Outlook. I am hoping that somebody out there can give me some suggestions.
SOFTWARE & HARDWARE
I believe the phone software is all current:
Phone CXC162050 R4B002
Organizer CXC162041 R3A04
CDA 162006/23 R3A01
PC Suite - 3.1.1 ?? (Readme file says 3.2.0)
I am using Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP-3 (9.0.6627)
My operating system is Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 with SP2 and with all current security updates.
My computer is an HP Pavilion Laptop with a 2.8GHz P4 chip and 512 MB RAM. Hard drive is less than 1/3 full.
SETTINGS
I have set PC Suite to synchronize Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Jotter, but not Messages.
I have not altered the default names of any of the Outlook folders. Under the Sync Station Settings "Data Type" tab I have tried both the "default" folder setting and the "Set Folder" option. (Under "Set Folder" option, I set folder to the existing default foldes.) No help.
I have no idea what other settings to look at.
PROBLEM
For about two weeks I could not synchronize at all, just as I can't now. I uninstalled PC Suite and reinstalled from the web several times. I upgraded to the most current version of Outlook 2000 and generally tinkered. Eventually something clicked and synchronizations started happening perfectly smoothly. I was able to successfully synchronize maybe 20 times. Then, all of a sudden, I can no longer synchronize.
The original problem I had, and the current problem I am currently having appear the same: When I hit the "Synchronize " button nothing happens, or sometime a brief hourglass pops onto the screen for the briefest moment. The synchronization screen does NOT pop up. Somewhere something is not being found, but if the system is giving me any clues as to what is wrong, I'm not seeing them. Bottom line is: I hit the sync button and there is absolutely no response.
I am running McAffee. I have tinkered with turning it on and off with no change in the problem. During the short time that synchronization was working fine, I had McAfee running in the background with no apparent problems. PC suite seemed to have no problem with it.
Trying to sync by infrared does not work either.
I have no problem backing up and restoring, or downloading files to the phone. The issue seems to be communicating between PC Suite and Outlook. I suspect I am missing something simple, but I don't know what.
I am guessing my problem may have something to do with (1) what com port I am on or (2) some setting in Outlook - but these are only guesses in the dark. The Phone Connection icon shows my USB connection to be through COM6, but I believe I have previously seen it on other COM ports. I don't recall the port setting when things were working fine. I have no clue how to get it to another COM port, or whether that would help.
The only thing I am aware of doing differently preceding the new synchronization problem is that I was entering information into Outlook to send to the phone. Previously all information had been entered into the phone and sent to Outlook. I changed the Sync Station settings so that Outlook would override the phone. I don't remember any other pertinent changes, but it had been a few days since I synchronized, so there may have been something I don't recall.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, I can't seem to find a straight "Tech Problems" forum for the P910. Any directions?
Thanks,
TomRey

the prob could be in your firewall. it could be because of the service pack 2 firewall.
my pc is running on a p4 2.8 overclocked to 3.2ghz pinless processor, asus prescott board, 1gig of ram. also on service pack 2 and kaspersky antivirus.
i had a problem synchronizing before. try making another folder to sync to, go to the syncronization settings and set another folder. try synchronizing your contacts only. one by one until you find what doesn't sync.
