On Tuesday 22 March, Symbian Ltd announced that it has licensed software from Microsoft that will allow mobile phones running its operating system to read data from Exchange servers. This means that mobile phones made by Nokia, Samsung, Siemens and Sony Ericsson will be able to access appointment and contacts information stored on Exchange e-mail servers.

yes I suppose it is good, however I would like to see open standards supported, such as the Open Mobile Alliance Data Synchronization group.
For example, Exchange servers should adopt the Open Mobile Alliance Data Synchronization protocols, so that no one has to licence anything. It's pure greed of microsoft to force vendors into licencing deals rather than adopt open standards.
Imagine if microsoft tried to forced vendors to buy licences to connect to microsoft servers? That would mean isp's would have to buy licences off microsoft so that the isp's customers can view webpages hosted on MS servers. Sound crazy? This battle is in fact going on in Europe right now.
