Possibly old news but ....
went to a local Sony Ericsson service centre yesterday to get my p910i updated to latest firmware and was asked for proof of purchase (which they've not done in the past). Usually they just check the IMEI online however, it transpires that Sony Ericsson has "unlicensed" all service centres and changed the way that they work, which is now as follows.
No authorised repair centres - in order to retain access to Sony Ericsson's technical database the old service centres have to flash in warranty phones for free whereas they used to get paid for doing this. If they refuse to do so and want to charge for it, Sony will kill their access to the online technical system.
Nice huh ?
The local service centre says they have to do it on the basis that they can then charge for out of warranty stuff but it makes you wonder how long it will work this way !

You should have told the Svc Ctr guy that he is a bit stupid as the P910 is not a year old and still under warrantee.
SE is going the way of Apple with their service.

Not sure if this is uk only - but methinks its probably Europe procedure - probably costing SE too much as we all love the later frimware that has had bugs fixed - suprisingly really -SE probably expected everyone to stay with their original ones!
However, after having the t-mobile flash replaced with a generic one, the online update service now works - which it never used to as it would check IMEI etc ... so maybe SE is planning to allow everyone to update online ?
