Its because she needs to get her firmware flashed back to the original nokia, by any chance did she buy it from CPW?

Since the phone was meant to work on "3" its try's to find 3G signals, since your firends simcard does not support 3G, the phone doesn't like it

This may seem obvious to some, but ensure that the phone is in GSM mode, not dual mode. (If you are not using a 3g sim card.)
If you scroll to settings, then phone settings, then scroll to network mode and select GSM.
I have also found flashing these phones necessary.
Hope this helps.
I have sold five 7600's to friends using Virgin, Orange,T-Mobile and Tesco Mobile sim cards and none have given any problems yet.

@amawanqa
Does "Network mode" only appear after a flash? My 7600 does not show this option.

hang on a second! i think i may have the wrong model number!!
its not the almost square one that was exclusive to cpw, its the one thats got the white front and black back that sort of looks like an easter egg. i am sure its not 3g at all!!

@ Si_V80,
I presume so... I had them unlocked and flashed immediately after buying them.
I had read on a previous esato post that flashing activates the 'hidden menus'. You may want to try the search on esato for more detail.
The 'network mode' option appears between 'operator selection' and 'confirm SIM service actions' in the phone settings menu on all 5 of the flashed 7600 phones.
My suggestion is to have it flashed ASAP and this should hopefully sort it out immediately.
I had all 5 unlocked and flashed by a shop in Barking, Essex, and as I mentioned in the previous post, all 5 are working 100% on other networks.
Good luck.
