I want to reuse my old registered version of Pocket-DVD Studio for Pokcet PC to make moves for my P910i. However, this porduct can only produce WMV of AVI format files. Is there a player for the P910i that can play WMV or AVI (xvid/divx) files?

Dont bother using lonelycats smartmovie converter (its alright but you can do better using below)

Use VirtualDub and koepi xvid (use 2 pass for better encoding of the video)

I'm really after a player for the P910i that can do AVI. As I mentioned, I would really like to use the convertor that i've already bought for my Pocket PC - it can do 2-pass and produces very high quality AVI's and will work straight off a DVD instead of having to rip the DVD to disk first.

VX220 had already suggested the smartmovie player application for avi (divx/xvid/3ivx) playback

I was just suggesting an alternative converter to the smartmovie one

I managed to play a clip of one of my ripped DVD's (ripped using Pocket-DVD Studio for Pocket PC!) on my P910i using SmartMovie. The only thing I found was that I couldn't get SmartMovie to read my AVI file off my memory card. I had to copy the clip to the internal memory first. Prior to that I couldn't actually copy an AVI to the P910i as it kept telling me that it files of that type were not allowed (I was just copying from Windows Explorer to 'My P910i'). I had to rename the file before I copied it over and renamed it back again after the copy.

I think I tried to put the .AVI file into the video folder of the memory stick but it wouldn't let me. I'll try again today. The only problem is that i've only got the standard 32MB memory stick in the P910i at the moment as i'm waiting for my 1GB card to arrive. Hence, I cannot upload a full movie so i'm only going a clip at the moment.

Anyway, Pocket-DVD Studio is fabulous! Single click ripping straight from the DVD and loads of advanced configuration options or just let it decide for you. It has various preset screen sizes (mostly geared for Pocket PC screens but a couple fit nicely onto the P910i screen - not 100% pixel fit but near enough).

The only thing is that the P910i is not as powerful as my PPC (iPaq H4150) so I need to set a slightly lower quality than I would normally for the rip. As soon as my 1GB card comes thorugh i'll put a full movie ripped using Pocket-DVD Studio onto the P910i and will let you know how it played using SmartMovie.
