Well why not? The motorola A1000 has wi-fi and 3G, so skype could work perfectly there. We can use our broadband connection on the pxxx series using bluetooth. I dont see where the problem is? I'd just love to be able to talk to my friends from my p910i taking advantage of its phone like formfactor, even though i'd have to stay in a 10m range from the pc.

Why would you need it. Skype on a phone is useless 'cos you could just ring someone from the phone.

because Skype over Wi-Fi to make calls to other skype users would be free whereas to call costs money. Thats why it wouldn't really work over gprs because of the bandwith that it would need to work would cost more than the call!

@c-9po.

Actually, if you read the article closer, you'll notice that the original poster has mentioned using BT and/or IR instead of GPRS. While GPRS would be at best *expensive* it would be interesting to use it with BT.

Apart from the cost, GPRS has too little bandwidth in the first place for VOIP

If you were to do it over bluetooth though you would have to be right next to your computer, so you may as well use skype on the computer!

In any case, there's Skype for Windows Mobile working over WiFi for iPaqs and ppl do use it near computer, same thing could be for BT. Sometimes you are too lazy to get over ur comp and want simply enjoy talking in ur bed for instance rather than sitting beside the computer.

From my experience skype needs less than 36kb/sec for a call, therefore GPRS is fine... in fact I've been told by people I know that skype over GPRS works fine.

There is a program for P800/P900/P910 which is like skype, it's called Visual Communicator or VC . It also works on Nokia phones which support installation of files. AND it's completely free (although it costs for the GPRS or whatever internet your using...)
