Even though im on it now using my p900 but its slow and annoying.
Anyways my problem is a i tried putting on a new cd rw drive but after i had finished i turned the pc on and and it started but it came up saying there was something wrong with it last time so it had restarted or turned off for some reason and gives me the choice to start windows normally or in safe mode.
Which ever one i chose the computer starts to load up but then just freezes before goin to the windows xp loading screen wwhich has a black background for those of u wondering wat part im talking about.
Would someone please be kind enough to help me.

Take the CD/RW drive out, see if it boots properly. If it does, then It's a problem with the drive. (Or the drives drivers)
If not, you may have to reinstall windows.

Yeah, I agree with Rocky. Take the drive out then try to start windows in 'Last known good configuration'. If that doesn't work, try safe mode.
You might also want to go into BIOS and check that the installed drives are all set to 'Auto'.
If it goes into safe mode, but not normal mode there's a good chance that a repair reinstall might work. Put the windows disk in and follow the instructions. When it gets to the part that says 'looking for installed components', it'll offer you the chance to 'press r to repair windows'. Bear in mind that you'll need your windows key number for this and you might need to reinstall some of your device drivers afterwards.

And also check in bios if the new drive is seen by the pc. Mostly it must be a slave/master error.

Have you got two optical drives?, If you have one must be set to master and the other to slave, to do this you must slot the jumper into the right location on the back of the drive. A jumper is small rectangular piece of plastic.
And you make sure the right connection is plug into each drive. i.e. master goes to master, slave to slave.
Hope this helps.

ok, i have 2 harddrives connected and brought another ribbon cable to connect the cdrw .
i originally had 1 hard drive and 1 cdrw drive so my friend tried connecting the 2 hard drives.but i could never use the new harddrives memory as it showed that it was connected but neveer showed up as a drive.
Any ways they were connected with the same cable.i coudnt swap the cdrw drive with the the new hard drive as it didnt work.
So thats when i brought the new ribbon cable and tried connectiing the cdrw seperatly.
Now it freezes when i chose anything such as last known settings where everything works or safe mode or start normally

To cut a long story short, it sounds like there's been one almighty f**k up
I think the best thing to do would be:
1. Set your first hard drive (the one with windows on it) to master (via the jumper(s) on the end near where the cable connects) and set the other one to slave. Connect them both, using a single ribbon cable, to one of the two IDE connectors on your motherboard.
2. Do likewise with any CD/DVD drives that you have, connecting them to the other IDE connector on the motherboard.
3. Go into BIOS (press delete or F1, F2, whatever when starting the PC up, it depends on your BIOS vendor). Go to 'Standard CMOS settings' and set all four drives or IDE channels (same thing) to AUTO
4. Save the current settings and exit. Hopefully, it'll boot up. If not, disconnect the second hard drive and reinstall windows. Once windows is reinstalled (or if it boots up without a reinstall), switch off and connect the other hard drive if necessary.
Here's where the problem lies. The second hard drive needs to be activated in windows, partitioned and formatted or else you won't be able to use it. To do this, you need to go to control panel - administrative tools - disk management.
Once there, you can activate the drive etc. via the menu tools. If you get stuck, give us a shout on here
