Windows2000/SE P910i
Hi
I just bought a new P910i (from the Carphone Warehouse in London UK). I installed the PC Suite on the CD that came with it onto my Windows2000 PC.
My CDA number is "CDA162005/3" and the organiser version is "R3A04" whereas
www.sonyericsson.com Update Service tells me it should be Organiser version "R4A10".
However even after I get to the page specifying all the Update requirements and I tick all five required boxes, I find that a smallish window comes up asking me if I want to run sort of software (and whether I want to trust stuff from Sony Ericsson etc... ) and then tick yes and I run it...
NOTHING HAPPENS!
A brief message saying "Applet Started" came up for a few seconds... then nothing!
I am left with an entirely blank HTML frame!
(The HTML page still says "Welcome to Soney Ericsson Update Service")...
Eventually I checked Control/Alt/Delete to see the Windows Task Manager, and I can see that something called "P910i - - Colour LCD 262K - Touchscreen - - Sony Ericsson - Microsoft Internet Explorer" (i.e. my MS Internet Explorer) is running... but NOTHING ELSE IS RUNNING! A brief message
How do I update the software on my phone?

download and install the latest java sofware for your browser from
www.java.com it's free restart your computer and try again. NOTE DO NOT TRY TO UPGRADE YOUR PHONE USING MOZZILA OR FIREFOX BROWSERS USE ONLY EXPLORER VERSIONS 5 AND OVER.

No I am using Internet Explorer (latest)
I tried using Netscape 7.1 and it was even worse! It just kept throwing me back to some home page (without any error message)!
Any other suggestions?

if you are using a pstn 56k modem you will have to wait a while for the applet window to open. you should use an isdn or broadband connection. (PREFFERED)

I had the same problem or worse. This is what I was advised to do and it worked.
I downloaded the latest java software from java.com , the latest Sony Ericsson PC Suite from SE website.I used Opera browser, I guese IE will also work fine.
I used a 56k modem, it works but take long.
Hope this will work.

Sorry I don't have a direct url.
Go to sonyericsson.com, select your region or you can find a global support link somewhere on the first pge, click on support, select your phone model and you will be at a page with update service link and drivers and software download link. You will find it somewhere there.
It is easy to find on the site.
Again don't forget to disable firewalls and antivirus software on your pc.

But I tried all that!
I went to UK support and tried to install PC Suite 3.1.1
only to discover that it claims the the version from my
CD ROM is more recent.
Except that I cant find what the PC Suite from my CD
is actually called!
Why is SE software so flakey, out-of-date,
counter-intuitive and USELESS?!!
(Esp when their phones are Excellent!)
Okay I now tried again. I installed the latest opera
(yes with Java) but the applet appears to have crashed.
The Java Console gave me these error messages:
DocumentBase:http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/nocache/10183/
FilesDir:http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/nocache/10183/
start()
hf.path file=C:\hf.path
InstallDir = C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service
versions should be:1.18, 1.00
install_package_version=1.18
upgrade_package_version=1.00
Installation up2date!
