Ok these guys are really trying it on now.. I just sold a pair of earphone and this is the reply I got from the winning bidder..
Hello,
Thanks for the mail. I am indeed happy to to be the
lucky winner of the item. I wish to let you know that
the price of £205 is okay by me as for the payment and
shipping you have nothing to worry about.I have spoken
to my shipping agent who will be comming for the
pickup in your end. There is a client of mine in the UK
who is owing me some funds about £3500 so I have
instructed him to issue the cheque in your name, you
deposit it in your bank after it must have cleared you
then deduct the cost of the Shure E5C for Apple iPod
plus additional £50 as your own ompesation which you
may spend on transport and some other things you then
get the remaining balance sent to my shipper via
western union money transfer. If this is okay by
you I want you to kindly get back to me asap with your
full name, contact address, and phone number both home
and mobile so that I can forward your contact details
to my client who will issue the cheque.Your
understanding will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Leo

Well he wants to send you a cheque for 3K and you deposit it into your account, he has two options..
1)The banks sometimes show the money as being cleared before it has and allow you to the funds, now you if your bank likes you they will allow you to withdraw the money and then after a few days that cheque probably will bounce and you are in debt for 3K after having sent the money via western Union to this guy.
2)He could give you a genuine cheque with the funds and report it stolen after you have cleared the funds and sent it to him via Western Union..pretty simple to do. and again you find yourself 3K short.
So be carefull it sounds very promising but is a real good one.

I also got that feeling.
The only way is him to do something with the cheque...

It is a scam. He sends you a fraudulent/forged cheque, which most probably will get picked up, but only after a few days and the money has 'gone' into your account. Tell him to get lost or pay another way!

Wow, thats really clever! I fell for a more obvious version of that... Basically, you cant get a verified Paypal account in Estonia (true), and he wants you to accept a payment for him. Then he sends you the payment from a stolen paypal account and asks you to send it via Western Union. Good thing UK banks are so slow, before i sent it the stolen account guy complained, and i was able to refund him. However, due to the changing exchange rates of the time, i lost 30 quid of my own money. I spose it serves me right for falling for it!
