Befor this year is over EDGE will be available on most GSM networks.Switzerland is one of the first countries thou to claim having EDGE coveriege of over 98% as you read this ! EDGE supports 200kbps down 64kbps up and is becoming more and more attractive to the cellphone companies because of its easy/cheap implementation.It offers everything UMTS does apart of video-calls.Swisscom is the company to offer it in Switzerland.

The way you've the thread title it looks like somekind of disease...
Anyway, 3G is very much spreaded, so EDGE won't have support for its implementation...
