Why is it that phones gets better all the time, but your batteries stay roughly the same, or gets worse. Better features take more power, but dont you guys think that the first manufacturer that makes a real good battery (lets say something like 50 hours active work time, or 2 weeks standby) will make a major profit?

What would you rather have Great features and suffer on the battery (say k700) or crap features and a good battery (say nokia 3210, not saying the 3210 had a great battery but has crap features compared with todays phones).

I would go for features.

Maybe a little wishfull thinking, but yea.... Something like a hybrid battery, recharging itself in some sort of way. I got to charge my k7 up to 3times a day Ffs.

Batterie technology has hit the roof (physical limitations). There is not much improvement possible anymore.

Thats not entirely true. The current technology has come to its natural limits yes, because theres not much more can be done with Li-Pol or Li-ion type batteries.

The companies that research battery technology experiment with different compounds and chemicals to acheive better power output and stamina. Such battery technology already exists, we just have to wait for the technology to be miniaturised so that it can be used in hand held devices and such.

The other way companies could make phones recharge on their own would be through kinetic energy. Basically, if the phone is moving, it generates its own power. Theres already some products which use this technology, such as watches, pedometers etc.

So, if you went out for the day to your local shopping mall, every footstep you take would recharge your battery a small fraction.

Nothing can beat the phillips Xenium. And I think they made one recently with a color screen. Yeah you don't get all the features in the world but you could easily get through ten days on a single charge. I think another problem is companies want smaller batteries, get other components to be smaller and give more room for the battery. Look at the k700 and T630 and you'll know what I mean. Monochrome screens always drain much less battery power than a colour screen, because the colour screen has to use backlighting to make the colours bright and vivid.

A monochome screen can simply have a small LED that shines across its surface.

Many of you dont realize the fact that although the battery itself cannot progress further, developers are constantly looking at ways to reduce the consumption of it thru the phone itself.
