im running winxp sp1. im gettn ALOTof popups and my comp is startn to mess up...and gambeling and porn icons show up on my desktop alot... i got 16 in the past 2 hours! i need the files on my comp, and dont even have the startup/restore disk. i ran norton and spybot s&d and fixed what it had checked, but it made no difference. my comp keeps freezing etc too. any sugestions on what i should do????

often it's not not enough to run just one antispyware check... try also Ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) and HiJackThis (www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/ , there you can also find some other useful tools) you can also try the online scan SpyAudit, www.webroot.com/services/spyaudit_03.htm (this only checks for spyware, it doesn't remove them)

In addition to Cytec's suggestions, you could also add CW Shredder (http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html)
Just download the standalone version, not the one that comes bundled with a free trial spyware remover (it's rubbish!)

Comes in handy because Adaware and Spybot sometimes miss some of the Cool Web Search variants, and they can be a real pain.

Just to add to all the other Spyware removal tools suggestions:
XoftSpy. Very quick & reliable.

The better way is to use them all (at least 2 or 3).
I'd suggest AdAware, Spybota and XoftSpy.

I rarley get any spyware any more i use a combination off

Firefox
ZONE Alarms Pro
AD-Aware
Spybot
microsoft anti spy (actualy fairly reliable)
and Xosoft
Hijack this

I just run them every couple of days and get hardly any spyware
