Like we often re-install windows and all its applications when it starts to get slower than usual mostly due to many instalations of programs we used only once to see how it was, I would like to re-install my P910i to its "factory state".

The question is, I would like to erase every application, every unknown file left (like those orfan dlls in windows) but I would like to keep the contacts, calendar, tasks and messages (mms & sms). Contacts, calendar & tasks its easy 'couse I can do an Outlook sync later but how can I keep the mms and sms? I used Message Storer but it only saves the messages to text file, though loosing any image or sound in mms.

Is there a folder containing the MMS in the P910i that I could backup and then restore it later after formating the phone?

Thanks.

Nuno

update the phone using the sonyericsson update service,or do the same thing at a sonyericsson service center. it reinstalls everything from the start. including the mms, templates and factory pictures and sounds.

I guess he is asking about backing up his own MMS and SMS, not the factory defaults

it is not a good way to master reset your phone. try to uninstall your applications, then like windows programs, every application keeps a small file in your phone, they makes it slow. Try to get "DiskCleaner" for deleting this "worm" files. You'll feel the speed after doing this

Hi Nuno

I've been thinking in doing a format to my P910 too, just for the sake of cleaing up the phone and improving the performance.

I've searched Esato on Google (esato search engine is far from perfect) and found this topic you might want to take a look at:

When you finish, tell me how the recovery of your files went.
Good luck!

Thanks _LAU_!! I missed that topic.

The reason I need to do this is because I installed and uninstalled so many applications in my P910, trial versions, freeware, etc, and right now the phone is not behaving very well.
- When I turn it on it takes a bit too long till the main screen.
- I can't change the wallpapers (FC or FO) even changing the themes.
- There's also some application that activates automatically the GPRS as everytime the phone starts I can see the globe GPRS icon blinking.
- Sometimes it crashes and I have to take out the battery...

Well, more strange things happen sometimes so I think the solution must be a master reset and restoring the contacts, etc and then installing the applications I really use...

I have a doubt !!

What's the difference between the Service Menu Master Reset and the Control Panel Master Reset?

What about the option "Delete user installed applications [x]" in the Master Reset on the Control Panel ?

Can I Master Reset and still keep the applications installed?
(does this make any sense?)
