Probably a joke.
Plus, Mercedes already made a prototype years ago without a steering wheel. Instead of it, it had a joystick in the gearbox place.

Krubach - It wern't my joke mate it's BMW who did it! They even had a full page advertisment in today's Daily Telegraph !!
