> k700i Newbie Needs Answers

Greetings, I recently purchased the amazing k700i and must say that I've been missing out for quite a while. I had a t610 for about a year and loved it, but over the past few months I've read more and more about the k700i. I can't believe how much SE has squeezed into such a small package! Anyway, I am absolutely thrilled with the k700i (and I'm looking forward to the k750). As you well know, we're a bit behind the times in the U.S. None of the major carriers include the k700i in their phone line-up (although some now carry the s700). I had to buy the k700i from a local shop who carries the best mobiles. Got it for $200 USD after renewing with TMobile for 1 year.
OK, so here are my questions:
1) Do I have the latest firmware? My k700i states: R2AE033
2) I noticed that the small black plastic/rubber charger cover is quite annoying to pop off every time I need to charge the phone. I'm assuming that after enough removals of the cover, it becomes weak and breaks off. Does this happen? If so, can a replacement cover be purchased and is it easy to install? Just checking.

Brendon...Congratulations on your new k700 & welcome to Esato R2AE033 is indeed the last official firmware for the k700i. The rubber casing for the charging port is quite stable if it is not yanked around. I suggest you go through the very detailed & informative review of the k700 in this forum, by Masseur. That should answer most of the initial questions. Of course once you start using the phone ( & its truly a joy to use it) you are bound to come back with more questions. Once again, congratulations on an excellent choice...

Dude you shouldn't really need to worry about the rubber cover on the bottom. It's pretty hard wearing. As long as you don't go chewing on it or summat?

. . . About yor 2nd 'Q' mate, just open that black thing cover beneath, VERY GENTLY, everytime you charge your K7 pal, of course eventually that thing will SNAP, but rest assured that the spare (part) will surely be available in the nearest
store in your place dude. Congrats! Better get the S700i next time, it's much - better!

Yes R2AE033 is the latest legitimate firmware as of today. There were rumors of R2AG and R2AL being released somewhere but I'm not sure if they were real.
About the plastic cover at the bottom, it's probably the worst and most annoying thing in the K700i that I can think of. After about 8 months of use, mine is already stretched/deformed and the lock is no longer tight so it doesn't close very well anymore. It just looks stupid when closed now. I would have been happy if it broke but the plastic hinge is strong and doesn't break easily. Some K700i users deliberately cut those hinges to remove the cover. I am already thinking of doing the same.

LOL, thanks for all the responses. About my S700 avitar, my mistake, just changed it to K700 (i'm a newbie, forgive me!). Speaking of the S700, it's too big for me, I wanted all the bells and whistles in a SMALL package. The S700 is too thick for my taste, although it is an awesome phone.
Glad to hear I have the latest firmware, I was worried about that. And I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed regarding the charger cover.
Anyway, I'm sure you are all correct, I've only had the K700 for two days so I'm sure I'll be back with add'l questions. Thanks everyone!
P.S. I've shown my new phone to about 10 different people so far, and they were all amazed. Each responded, "Where did you get that amazing phone?!!"
