hi there, need you help quickly.
just bought a p800 on ebay and when it finaly arrived yesterday it seemed to work perfectly untill i tried to play a mp3 file and it was playing but i could't hear anything,
so then i tried ringing the phone, but again no ringtone, it only vibrated.
as i see it, it must be the loud speaker not the normal speaker, as i can hear people speaking on calls.
finally i pluged in the se headphones thinking that that atleast should work, but i could't hear any music or sounds on the videos.
i went through all menus on the phone i.e. control panel, sounds and alerts, all seems ok.
i have to contact the person who sold it to me as it was sold as perfer working order, i just want to make sure i have't missed something.
sorry about the long message.

WELCOME TO ESATO...
hmm.. looks like the phone is damaged, I don´t know what a firmware update would do??

thanks for the welcome,
yeah i definaly think its broke.
is it normal that if the speaker does't work, neither does headphones?
also the key "click" still sounds and i would have though it was through the same method that a ringtone would sound.
Any ideas?

Well, if the speaker is broken, it doesn´t mean that the hedphones shouldn´t work. But I dont remember where the key click does come from. (The first thing on my P910i was to turn it off).
I think this is pretty strange... What I would do is to let some service center take a look at it and let them update the firmware also.
It could be something broken in the speaker.

just a suggestion.... not sure if this will actually work..?
take the phone apart using a t-8 screw driver (you can find these at most hardware or sears stores) and open the phone up. try taking the headphone plug out of the phone and see if the speaker will work then. ive opened my p800 up and the headphone jack simply sits on a circuit, you can easily remove it with out any force.
now, im no electrical engineer (im studying for mechanical acutally =) but i would assume that the headphones, once plugged in, over ride the signal to the speakers. so maybe taking this (faulty) part out of the circuit would make the speakers work again? just a thought. sounds like you have a bad unit tho =(.

thanks for all that,
i think i'll contact the seller before i dismantle it or take it to a phone shop, just in case i damage it more then i defiantly wont get any money back.
it does seem very strange and its really annoying as i purchased the phone a few week ago and i've been eagerly waiting for it to come. And when it does it does’t work!!!!!
Luck of the Irish I guess.
p.s. this is a great site and i've learned so many helpful things. keep up the good work

As you stated that it only vibrates when a call comes in, have you checked if the system sound is on? Is the speaker icon visible or is it on "silent"? Or just check the sound settings in the control panel.
The headphones should always work, either on silent or normal mode (the volume slider is available if you click on the speaker-icon to set the volume of the headphones).
Do you hear a sound when you start the phone up? If not, chances are that the phone is on "silent" mode.
