if you have an unbranded phone i need you to
1) C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\software-data directory - delete all contents of this folder as this contains your current firmware if its already the latest skip the next part.
2)run the update service and allow it to download the new firmware and update your phone.
3)add the contents of the directory stated above and contact me
dan.walmsley@gmail.com prefrebly with the ability to email me the files, this we i can setup a website that allows people to debrand there phones,
im looking to get people with CDA 162003/x firmwares please help this will allow 1000s of branded p900 users to get rid of all the rubbish branding they all hate.

nah they had a modified dll file for the update service which used to work but no one has bothered updating it to be compatible with the new version of the update service, im 99.9% sure this method will work all i need to do is get the new firmware unbranded and rename it to that of the the branded firmware it will load it on and away we go.

sony ericsson now check your imei number when updating (to see what it was originally sold as ) i had mine unbranded and now if i try and update it will reconise it as a branded phone and put back on latest version of the branded sortware.

Ermm .. don;t think they check the imei anymore. I have a T-mobile branded P910 and I had it flashed at a service centre. I came home and just thought I'd check the update service which worked and updated it to the latest generic flash.

well while the rest of you sit on your backsides and moan im gonna actually try so anyone got a problem with that, i kno this way i can definately flash on which ever firmware i put in that folder and rename to disguise it as the firmware its supposed to be, obviously it will only be good until the next update comes along but until then i think it should work fine!

This is theoretically possible, if you get the generic firmware, you've just got to find a way to bypass the update software's checking code, so it just flashes the generic firmware no questions asked.
I always assumed this would be possible, but I don't have the expertise to reverse engineer the update software... good luck walmsley!
