I think its their range. 1.1 is upto 10 m. The 1.2 is upto 100m i think. Just a guess.

Think its speed (and possibly range).
All my previous BT stuff had 1MB max speed. The BT built into my new desktop shows upto 10MB max speed.

both of you are right. the most important difference is the range. but good to mention that the speed of bt also depends on the second device too. you can't get faster speed if your phone uses v1.1

AFAIK the range also depends on both the devices: it's impossibile to transfer something to a mobile far than 10 m unless it's class 1.2 (100 m) capable as well..
Am I wrong?

actually... i asked this question awhile back... its not necessarily range. its stability, and speed. its kinda like the different wlan speeds that are out. but 1.2 doesnt always mean its 100m from what i have been told here.

Two different thing coexists :
class and revision :
class 1/2 : 70m/10m range
1.1/1.2 : small differences (mostly transfer rate)

1.2 adds over 1.1 spec BT:
Adaptive Frequency hopping. In a nutshell better and more stable connection to BT devices (less interfearence from other devices, like W-Fi, etc, etc)
Faster data transfer. Support 2.1MBs over 726Kbps on BT 1.1. This is a maximum speed only.
Better audio support. Better audio alogorithms mean that voice is supposed to sound better (enhanced echo cancellation, etc, etc)
Reduced power consumption. Draws less powerm upto 70% incertain situations.
Stereo sound support. This is probably the biggest improvement of BT 1.1.
Class 1/2 referes to the range of the device. You can have Class 1 (100m range) or class 2 (10m range) in both Bluetooth 1.1 & 1.2
As for SE phones that support it, no idea. but the i-Mate JAM supports it, so does the Nokia 8800. Only 2 I know of.
