Anyone has got a LCD problem in a colour phone due to the phone displaying a fixed screen for a long time. (Eg: running a slide show with only one image in it).

I mean does that sort of stuff really happen? It was something the screensavers were designed to protect the CRT's from...right?

I think the phone displays the moving clock in standby, for that reason only....or i'm very much mistaken....???

LCD displays don't get screen burn as such, but there are reports of a similar problem called 'Temporary image persistance'. The good news is, TIP is not usually permanent like screen burn is. Take a look here if you're on a PC or have a HTML browser on your phone:

http://www.dslwebserver.com/m[....]tml?/main/lcd-screen-burn.html

There's a few other reports on the subject floating around google, too.

Screen burn generally seems to take place on plasma TV's, as you can see in airports, when they've used one to display flight times, and then suddenly decide to use it for advertising, there is a marked image of flight times on it!

Screen burn usually happens on CRT monitors (usually old ones) but this is the first time i've read of a LCD monitor suffering a screen burn

@akshat_bisht

Well, the guy who wrote the report that I linked to said that his screen was displaying the same image for several months before it 'burned'.

I don't really know exactly how long it would take, but I would guess that it would have to be a matter of days or even weeks rather than hours. My PC's LCD panel used to regularly be on with no screensaver or activity for three days + at a time and it never showed any signs of TIP. I use a screensaver now just in case!

LCD's won't burn in normal conditions.
LCD's work by blocking the light instead of being a light source.
There's a bright light behing an LCD, and blocking some colors will make others appear.

CRT will probably burn after some hours displaying the same image (that's why screensavers were invented... as the name indicates )

Plasmas WILL burn, due to the high temperatures inside each display cell (Plasma is the 4th state of the matter folowing solid->liquid->gas->plasma).

Another curiosity: Plasmas won't work well in high altitudes, due to pressure drops which will make the gas inside each display cell, not to work properly.

Good point @Krubach, but luckily, I only live 350ft above sea level, (according to my Sat Nav in my Audi A8)! So no worries!

I thought 'screen burn' only happened back in the 1970's, when people used to use the 'Pong' game on their TVs !)
