Putting aside initial software costs, how do the 2 compare from a cost per message point of assuming 10p/sms and £1/Mb GPRS ?

Never considered it, most of my friends don't have IM or are (dare I say it) not capable of using IM.
I would use sms most of the time, but having said that after texting a mate five or six times each way it would have been cheaper to ring him for probably a minute or two and still come in under the £1 a minute for a Mb.
I wouldn't consider using the mobile for a long busines call unless they phoned me. The classic lately is my daughters mate will ring her from mobile to mobile and let it ring twice full well knowing that she will ring back and then pay for the call. It doesn't work after we twigged what was going on. She just doesn't ring back but waits for her to ring again and answers immediately so her mate doesnt have time to hang up.
Who says kids aren't cute these days?

Could anybody recommend an IM and just how easy are they to use?
The main person I want to use it with has a GPRS enabled Sendo.
Is there a compatibility issue with different brands of phones?
