I had my phone connected today via :bt: and I wanted to do a backup, but I could not figure out why it was grayed out in the connection pop-up menu and when I started it, its status was not connected.

After messing around a bit, nothing worked and I decided to pull out my syncstation. That did the trick.

So is this normal? Backup/Restore only works with the Syncstation?

But it works with Nokia 3230. Can make up a backup to Memorycard and best of all when start bluetooth on mobile pc is founding it immediately! No need to try to connect by yourself. Except that it also is sending pictures and video captured since last connection and sending to pc. SE has much to learn from Nokia about PC suite.

@janptr

It's not possible to backup files in use (open) by the OS or applications (ie: the mail index file).
That's why SE reboots the phone, so all files are released.

If Nokia does what you say, they can not backups all files, meaning they can only make incomplete backups, that are not of much use in case of a catastrophic failure.

Second, why do you want to backup using BT?
It so slow! It would take about 1 hour to backup 128 MB!

Maybe itīs so but a good choice when Im having friends Nokia here and no cable to use. Biggest impression was how good BT was working in over all.

Ever since I got my bluetooth working properly and automatically searching for my phone, I hadn't put my phone on the Syncstation since I updated my firmware. I can sync and install over bluetooth and I transfer files using a memory card reader.

Its not that I really wanted to backup over bluetooth, its that I hadn't used the Syncstation in forever and I just decided it was time for a backup, then I noticed that the backup utility won't connect to a bluetooth device. I just think they should make that a little more obvious.
