Does anybody know if VoiceStream permits its GPRS users to use public WAP gateways via its wap.voicestream.com APN? I am having trouble with a certain WAP site when using VS. My browsers receive "cannot display malformed content" message when they hit this site. VS says its the site. The site developers say its VS. I figure a good way to test is using another WAP gateway. Is this possible? If so, can anybody suggest some public gateways that I can test with?
Thanks,
Diego

The best public wap gateway for error reporting is 64.23.32.65 because it reports the specific error encountered. Leave the user and password blank.
Also, i have never gotten the VS GPRS apn to use a public gateway, use CSD.
What wap page are you trying to load? Sometimes they are written specifically for the phone.com browser (which the T68 does not have) and you'll get an "Unsupported content type: html" error. This would be the wap content provider's fault. For instance, mobile.msn.com loads on the T68 but as soon as you try to sign in and are redirected to the passport sign in page, an error occurrs.

I was hoping that I didn't have to use CSD... oh well. I am pretty sure that it is the VS gateway because I was using the Blazer browser on a Palm. When I hit the site with Blazer connected via a Sprint phone all is good. When I use the same Palm/Blazer setup and connect thru VS-GRPS-WAP then I get a "malformed contect" error. I also tried the phone.com browser and jBrowser all with same "malformed content" error. I wonder if it is a combination of GPRS and gateway. Maybe is I use CSD and the VS gateway it would work. Gotta check it out.
Thanks,
Diego

I've heard that the more expensive inernet2.voicestream.com apn ($20 monthly) allows you to connect with web pages, not just wap sites. I can't verify, because I choose the cheap GPRS apn.

Yes, the internet2 APN permits this. However, I tested and you are correct. You cannot use public gateways via WAP APN or internet2 APN. I don't understand the reasoning for this. VS is either really paranoid/anal or just incompetent. I would lean towards the latter. I will have to use CSD for my public WAP gateway testing.

Argh!!! I can't get CSD to work. I setup the phone using the info found in several posts and it doesn't connect with CSD. Do you think that because I have a GPRS account they would somehow turn off CSD? The phone number that is referenced in all the posts is a 913 number. Are there any other numbers?
Thanks,
Diego

Diego,
Where does the CSD get stuck? It should say calling, connecting, verifying, loading. If you are using the 913 number have you set your dial type to ISDN?

The CSD says "calling +1913..." then it flips to "failed". Pretty harsh. I talked to the VS guys and they confirmed all the settings as correct. They told me that I should do a "master reset" and try again. I'm hesitant because I don't know (and they couldn't tell me) how much of my phone setup I would lose. Do you know what I would lose with the master reset?
Thanks,
Diego

Diego,
Before doing a master reset, i would ask if there is anyone else in your area that is ABLE to connect via CSD.
My phone did the same thing last week and it turned out to be a problem with the vs network.
If you do a master restet, you will lose all settings. If you have a way to connect to a pc, you can use phone backup, an application on
www.christersson.org and then you won't have to manually re-enter anything.

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely check with others and wait a while before resorting to that step.
