Just a Note: Please don't slate me with "the P-series is classy", thats not what Im getting at. I understand that, but I am looking for a more slick, Stainless steel, Solid look.
With the release of the Moto RAZR (a while back) and the current release of the new Nokia 8800 when will SE decide to make a solid classy designed phone. I feel that this is a major part of what SE are lacking. Although not a big Nokia fan, I have always LOVED Nokias 88xx series of phones, and once owned a 8850 which apart from the fact it fell behind in terms of technology I have always regretted getting rid of it.

True, however all SE phones have or atleast used to have that solid classy look, like the T610 and the P900 however that quickly faded. The K700 has a cheap look to it and the P910 looks less professional.

Do SE need to create pointless fashion phones? Look at the feature list on the phones you mention, if SE did announce something as basic as that with a price to rival the P910, they'll get panned here for taking a few steps backwards.

I think the problem is that you can design the classiest 'phone in the world, however
within one or two months it will become dated, it's not like a car where you can look back at some models that still look good 20 years later and are still usable,( probably not the right analogy but you can see what I am getting at).
Bought a D500 this week just for some fun, very annoying text input when compared to SE, but camera is nice and so is screen colours. The P910 is still streets ahead of it in terms of usability and connectivity to pcs and macs.
Just my 50ps worth !

With time we will get all we want from SE
Samsung although they make nice looking phones, they don't have a phone that meets your style requirements.
I think SE wants to take a lead in technology first then it will have time to worry about fashion varients of their phones.

If fashion phones are pointless, why is it that the phones offered for sale that fetch the highest prices are Nokia 8850/90 and 8910/i and on the same token, people hardly remember which model was performance king at the time of the above mentioned phones release/production cycle..
Better think again pal

I am sure a premium SE would sell like hotcakes even without 1Gb memory or pointless novelty features that will make you yawn the next quarter when the successor is announced!

The_poet, more like 1p worth,
Fashion phones dont go out of date, that fast, and the person who said that they are pointless and they dont have many features so SEs feature list covers that,
Thats completely untrue, the fact that they dont have any new features is why they last forever, because they were made not to have newer features, theyre made to look classy, and they dont go out of fashion in a couple of months, anyone who has owned a 8xxx phone probably still has it, or was forced to part with it.
and WTF was with the comparison between D500 and P910, theyre not in the same league, and they are not fashion phones.
Now thats MY $$$ worth.

I entirely agree with the thrust of this thread:
1. Phones can be like cars...some designs are timeless...some people do want looks above all else.
2. SE have by and large been successful because they have been masters of the niche product, leaving mass sales to Nokia etc... Sure, some of their phones have sold in large quantities, but essentially, they have filled a need. This need has been a greater emphasis on features and technology....thus far.
3. However, there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't bring out a good-looking, high-end phone. Their marketing skills are based on niche products... this would simply be a different niche.
4. I am going to buy the new Nokia 8800... I think it looks great. I would rather, however, that I had a choice provoided to me by SE.

I wasn't comparing the two as such, I use the P910 for business and the D500 for faffing about with.
I can wait for the next PXXX or PM and I wouldn't dream of giving it up for the D500 anyway. I don't have any special requirements for the next gen SE that comes out apart from wanting wifi stuck in it so I can use email over wifi in starbucks, airports etc rather than getting hammered by data charges that my provider hits me with for roaming every time i leave the isle of man. Oh and maybe a zoomable camera.
Roaming charges = a licence to print money for the telecom providers.
