I've just bought a Motorola V500 phone off someone on Esato that has a problem with it's speaker. It only works intermittently, but does work on speakerphone apparently.

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice here - I've googled this fault and it looks like quite a common fault, basically is it a hardware or a software fault? Is it simply a case of replacing/cleaning the speaker, or would the phone need reflashing to fix the problem? The results I've had so far are inconclusive as to the common fault here, some say it's just a speaker probelm, a few say it's a software problem!

Any advice/guidance or help would be appreciated!

Any ideas anyone?

Not sure if it's at all relevant, but it's an orange branded phone that's been unlocked.

Thanks for the info- why does the software need updating though?

Sorted it!! Working so far using the technical method of putting a small piece of folded paper between the contact for the speaker and the outer metal frame so that the contact is pushed onto the speaker much more firmly. It's quite a tight fit, so the paper shouldn't move!

I have another small problem - I downloaded O2's settings to the phone, but it won't let me connect to the internet, and when you go into the settings menu to select the O2 GPRS or MMS settings, there's a small padlock next to these settings that isn't next to the Orange settings (it's an Orange branded phone) How do I get rid of these padlocks and access O2 GPRS? It'll let me edit the settings, it just brings up the error message 'browser settings not complete'

Thanks for the help!
