> T68i: How does it know its in a car?
Bookmark topic
Hi!
I use a passive holder (HCH-28), the car charger, and a std. Ericsson hands-free in my car.
When I connect the phone, it changes to Handsfree, rather that to In_Car profile

. This is a problem, as the settings for the two are very different. I want light on, vibra off, magicword on, in the car, and the opposite for hands-free.
I can't even just change it by hand, because there is a bug/feature:
If I change profile to "In Car" manually, it doesnt enable MagicWord, even though I set MagicWord > Environments to: In Car.
Does anyone know how I kan fool (actually enlighten) the phone into believing (knowing) it is in a car?
I guess the car-kits short two of the leads on the holder or some such simple trick, but I need to know exactly. I dont want to install an overpriced car kit (they are, at least here), which usually touts features i don't need, like voice recognition (my T68 does that already)?
Any help appreciated

.
PS: This might belong in the Technical forum, but it is accessory related...

Hey mate, I know what you mean but you can't fool it or anything. I bought the original kit and yeah it has a module and that what everything plugs into that has the command to phone saying its in car... there is no way to fool it with using handsfree cause the holder is nothing to do with car cause the whatever you plug at the bottom if it is the same as if you were to connect it staright to the phone, like you can plug your mp3 player on it and it will come up as mp3 etc. you have to manually change profiles when you go into the car.... hope this helps

you can't fool it since the portable handsfree doesn't have the electronics that the car handsfree does... it's not just a change in phone settings you know?
The car handsfree kit has the echo cancellation circuitry that the phone detects. The phone can even tell the difference between the regular handsfree and the FM handsfree.
To the phone, all the handsfree kits are as different as night and day... with the exception of the FM handsfree when it's OFF, but once you yurn on the radio, the phone can tell the difference.

Well, then how do I enable Magic Word in the car?
Changing a profile doesn't help... Magic Word seems to ignore profiles.
I normally have Magic Word off, because of battery concern, but in the car the phone will charge, and I want it on.
To change it to ON manually is very slow, you have to select:
- Settings
- Voice Control
- Magic Word
- On
- Select "Port H-free" (Don't know why it forgets this...)
- Press Yes
- Wait for power-use msg to disapear or press Yes
- Press No to replace the command
- Press and hold No to return to Standby
= ARGH

it takes TOO LONG, 11 keypresses!!! (It takes 2 to get to settings, and 2 to select Port H-free)
How can I do this smarter?
PS: I actually have a HCA-10 Car kit, but I would rather use a portable handsfree in my car, as I want to be able to take it to another car. Plus I hate that bit DSP box doing absolutely nothing usefull (echo cancelation is not needed when the headset is on my ear/around my neck, and the T68i does voice controll by itself).
I don't want to install all that crap in my car, just to be able to get the phone to enable magic word!

Well you have it all there install it if you want the phone to be in car, otherwise there is nothing you can do. If you go into hands free, then the magic word should stay there, so you must be doing something with the profiles.
