hey, the p910 has 64mb of internal memory right? My question is that is this the ram of the phone, and if so, surely the more stuff you install on the c: of the phone will mean that the slower it gets. How much can you install on the phone without slowing it down?

I've installed all my applications to the device, leaving MS DUO strictly for media, but i think this may be slowing the phone down ...

i don't install or save anything on the phone and put everything on the mem stick.

that way, the phone has as much free mem as possible. not only do you not slow it down, but it should minimize any crashes due to not enough free memory available.

iN THE begining I did like unique_1 did, but I noticed something - each time I removed the MS I would loose valuable applications.
MS can be removed for many reasons: to be used in an external reader (a must!), a camera, etc. So I thought it was not the best strategy.

Now each time I install apps I think to myself: Can I live without this application? (is it a game?)
Then I think: Does this application might need to switch MemorySticks?
Like a movie player or a MP3 player. I might want to switch MS to insert a different film or album!
If this is true, then this application must be installed internally, otherwise the moment I switch MS the application is also gone!

Resuming:

Internal - "Can't live without" applications + applications that might need files on another MS

External - Unimportant appplications + Games

To answer the original question: Internal memory = drive C is 64 MB on P910. RAM (where you run but do not install/store programs) is 32 MB. Keeping 2 MB free space on drive C is sufficient. Filling up drive C has no direct effect on operation speed of RAM, which is separate.

so you are saying that there is an internal memeory of 64mb, and ram of 32 mb. And that i can install 62mb of stuff on c and still be fine?

Hi,

yes, Zol is right. 32MB active RAM for running apps to make use of (but in actual fact, the OS already took up almost 10MB at boot time), thus you are left with around 22MB of active ram each time the phone starts up, but this is sufficient to run as many apps as you wish. I have RunAtOnce and have set more than 10 apps to auto start at each boot up, and I still have about 16MB of active RAM free with so many apps already started.

Full 64MB C: drive is there for you to install apps or store your media files. Zol is also right on this, cos I have installed so many things on C: drive that I am currently left with 17MB but there's no effect on the speed of my P910i at all, and it is still as quick as my good old P900 with R5B02 firmware. Note this is only true with R4A10 firmware cos the speed of P910i is pretty slow with all previous firmwares imho and SE seems to have optomise the speed with R4A10 release...

I keep all my media files and documents on my DUO Pro card as it is much easier and much much much faster to take out the card (of course with the phone still ON) and use a card reader to transfer/delete files as compared to using the "serial" cradle.

Cheers

Phone: R4A006
Bluetooth: R2C

Is this the latest firmware as you explain? I'm pretty sure it isnt because the numbers you have listed arnt anywhere on my system info. BUT the SE update service said that my phone was up to date :S

Sorry to be a pain! am i running the optimised firmware or not?

Hi,

apologies for the late reply... I am afraid your's is 2 firmwares behind... Organiser no. is the one to look at and there was a R3A04 prior to R4A10 being released about 1 mth back.

You can upgrade online here and make sure you do a full backup first cos the upgrade will clear away everything that's in your phone.

Edit: Oops... apologies, didn't saw that yours a branded P910i I am afraid you may be at the mercy of T-mobile when comes to firmware release
