I was using a T28, and when I had a wired headset, I could make a call, and once it was connected, close the flip and not lose the call. This was a great feature because I could just slip the phone in my pocket and continue the conversation.

I replaced the T28 with a T39, I tried to make a call and close the flip, but it disconnected the call. I have went through all of the settings and cannot seem to still have an active flip to answer calls, yet be able to close the flip when making a call with the headset.

Does anyone know a way to bring that great T28 feature to my T39? or is it just a feature that was lost?

I dont understand what you mean. What I am trying to do is, plug in a wired headset, open the flip, make a call, close the flip and still be connected. Once I unplug the headset, I still want to be able to answer a call by opening the flip (active flip) without having to Activate and deactivate the flip from the menu. The T28 does this, I want my T39 to work the same way if it can.

Where do I check for the firmware version?

Yes, if a call comes "in" I can answer it and the flip will be closed while I am one the phone. But I want to open the flip, call "out" and then close the flip while still maintaining the connection (while using the headset)

I know, but I like the Active flip for answering and ending calls when I am NOT on a headset, and I don't want to have t go into the menu settings and turn the flip on and off just because I want to make one outgoing phone call with the headset.

With the T28 you can leave active flip on, plug in a headset, open the flip, make a call, once the call connects, close the flip Without disconnecting the call, and then conveniently slip the phone in your pocket. When you unplug the headset, the flip is still fully active.

My guess is that this great feature is just not available on my T39. If I want the convenience of making an out going call on the headset, I will just have to get used to the idea of holding the phone in my hand during the call (which defeats the reason for the hands free headset) or have the person call me back so I can answer with the button on the headset.

That would be perfect, I checked every option in the handsfree profile but, unfortunately the flip is a function of the phone, not the profile.

Well, that's allright, the phone is perfect, for me at this time, I prefer carrying it over my Z600
