> should network branding be barred?

I think it takes the piss when networks brand (Wreck) a phone, i think it should be barred and the most they can do is install a few screen saves, wallpapers but have the option to delete them and just a sim lock. who agrees?

Me! I can't stand the network branding, which it seems can make a phone unstable, and disable features, like the mp3 ringtones on a Voda branded K700!

I took my P910i to the service centre so they could flash T-mobiles software off the phone straight away! hated it nothing but problems! :@
I suppose it is just extra advertising for the networks

Totally hate it !
They add on wallpapers, screensavers, ringtones, ect.....
And you can't delete them. What a waste of memory space.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Why forbid branding? It makes phones cheaper for who needs them. And as long as you can buy genuine phones, you have the choice.
Anyway, on what legal ground would you do that?

Excuse me, but who points a gun to your head and makes you buy the damn things?
I choose to buy SIM free, or buy PAYG and debrand/unlock the phones. I will NOT go for slave contracts *again* where you end up paying at least what the phone cost when launched.
Don´t get me wrong, i hate branding as much as anyone, but i fe(ar)el the only way to stop it is to plain refuse to buy branded phones. Then they´ll get the message loud ´n´clear.

Unbranded phones in the U.S. cause problems with wapping and surfing the internet. unless you can break certain coding, as I have you are limited to what you can use on the phone.
Thus renedering your unit uncapable of certain functions.
Now for the less savvy, the route is a branded phone as it will have all configurations and no headaches due to perhaps 75 % functionality.
As for me, I'll hack the phone as much as I can. So far so good.

As long as there's an option to buy an unbranded phone I've got no complaints subscribers should be given choice.

I don't mind the logos on the phone itself and I even don't mind the undeletable wallpapers and start-up screens. What I don't like is when they start changing the menus and disabling certain features. I just don't think there's any need to do that other than greed.
Sure, you get the phone from them more cheaply than usual, but you are already tied to at least a one year contract, surely they can get their money back that way rather than trying to force you to buy THEIR ringtones, wallpapers etc.
