Folks,
i have me a Dell D600, tried to put some more RAM in it and now it doesnt turn on!
removed the new RAM and still no joy.
if you boot it up some lights come on but after about 10 secs itll just turn off.
the fan doesnt kick in. so im kinda hoping its a simple thing to fix!
any help would be appreciated!
Cheers

There is some kind of switch that forces the laptop to go to standby mode if i remember right. Is that ok?

Can you get it into BIOS? Load optimised defaults etc. Just thinking that the memory bus speed setting might have changed itself after detecting the memory module that it didn't like?

Its a physical switch on the board not keypresses.

Ok, last ditch attempt (ahem)...
Do the same as what you did with your other laptop, i.e. reset BIOS using the jumper or by leaving the battery out for a good few hours?
Another one, take all of the memory out and boot it up. If you get a display or a beep code moaning about the lack of memory, but it back in and see what happens.
Putting the wrong kind of memory in doesn't usually kill a PC, I'm sure it's just confused about bus speed settings, especially if it's a (spit!) intel (spit! spit!) processor?
