> Bugs in the latest firmware release?
Bookmark topic
Hi all,
There seem to be a couple of serious problems with the latest release of the SonyEricsson firmware for P910i. Currently I am on CDA 162006/25 R4A01 Organizer version CXC162041 R4A10.
Problem no.1: Calls are no longer received and also calls cannot be made out. The phone is on the network, it seems to be able to hop/switch cells properly when travelling. The strength of the signal is full (I'm in the city). This seems to occur every couple of weeks if the phone hasn't been rebooted in the meantime. A reboot will fix this problem, but the problem is that you rely on the phone being able to receive/make calls and there's no tell-tale sign other than when you try to make a call, it takes an awfully long time until a "connection failed" sound is returned.
The phone has not had this problem prior to the firmware upgrade.
Problem 2: This problem is un-related to the first one, it is a separate bug. When the phone is in a no-signal area, the screen stops updating when in flip-closed mode. Normally I have the clock screen-saver activated, but I have noticed that it no longer kicks in after I have pressed a key to glance at the flip-closed screen for received messages/calls. What happens is that after that, normally the screen should blank and the clock should be displayed within the timeframe specified in the settings (in my case - 1 minute). However, the screen remains the same, even more-so the clock on the FC screen (the little HH:MM display on the right-side, above Unlock menu) is no longer updated. The only update happens either if I unlock the keyboard or I go Flip-Open and Flip-Close again.
Again, this problem did not exist in the previous version of the firmware and it only started after I have updated the phone firmware to the above version.
Has anyone noticed anything similar to this?

The first problem is common with people who leave the GPRS attached. There's no reason at all to leave it attached as it will reattach itself if it's required.
Make the phone GSM only and it should fix this problem.
As for the second problem, I find that sometimes the phone will not go into blank mode (ie the screensave clock will not come on)
It's very annoying but I can't detect any pattern to it. I haven't been out of signal range since I got my P910i but I still see this about once a week, I'll check the phone 30 minutes later and it's dimmed but hasn't blanked totally like it should (and no people, it's not charging!)
I read on another post there's a new firmware going to be available ~16may.
The bug I have noticed is that if I take a communictor picture in flip closed mode and then press the right menu key and press option 1 (send as MMS) sometimes it won't work, the messages app will not load up. If I do it 3 or 4 times it will work in the end. Kind of odd, but prehaps caused by an app I have installed. Can others test this, see if they have it (R4A10 firmware)

Well... My GPRS is configured to detach after 5 minutes.
And the connection type was set to "Auto". I just set it to
"GSM Only" and I'll monitor the damned thing, see what it
does.
Though it shouldn't have anything to do with the setting, because we're talking "voice" here, not data/SMS.
Oh, and SE just sent me an aswer to these bugs I posted with them a couple of weeks ago. Their suggestion is to take the phone to the nearest service centre and have it fixed there. One would only wonder what this "fixin'" implies? Reflash it with the previous version of the firmware or what? Hold it there for a couple of weeks and return it as "could not replicate fault"?

I bought my phone, charged it up fully, updated it (I have my own flashing tools) and then started using it
So I don't know.
I could flash it down but I hear that older firwmares are much slower, so I haven't bothered.
I don't have any bugs that bother me, just those ones I've posted about.

@CJack
As I said in my first post, I haven't noticed anyting of that kind before the update. And I'm very sure of that.

Well-well-well... looks like 2 days after I've submitted those bugs to SE, there was a firmware release. Now I'm sure this is just *pure* coincidence, but how good can you get, eh?
Anyways, it looks like all the vodafone branded phones (in .au and .uk) have been released with the same latest version of the organizer which is R4A01.
I'll put this last firmare version on and see where it goes. Weee-eee!!
... though it would be so much better if they had a "fixes in this version" file
in there.

@inorog
My K700i has developed the first problem you posted. In addition when I answer calls somtimes I can't hear the caller and they cant hear me. A quick look at the display shows a red X next to the active call icon and when I hang up and check the Menu display, the Vodafone Live! and Favourites icons have gone. They come back when switched off then on. I thought maybe it was because it had 'bounced' a few times...
Every time I take a phone in for servicing they say "Buy a new phone!". I'll save the inspection fee and wait for the W800 release.
