There are threads everywhere talking about the rumoured successor to the P910i and people's wish list of features. The focus seems to be all on the hardware. Sure a better camera would be nice, Wifi would be fantastic but if I had to pick it would be a good keyboard a la the Blackberry/Treo. This would make it close to perfect for me. What I'm hoping for more than anything is with UIQ 3 the platform will have matured enough so that developers will finally be able to bring us some serious software. Apart from the keyboard my wish list is software based.
1. A proper PIM something like Pocket Informant.
2. Better built in messages program especially the email client. Although I must mention ProfiMail which is an excellent email client but it's always nice to have options.
3. Spell checker (which would go very nicely with the new keyboard).
4. A finance program along the lines of Splash Money or Pocket Quicken.
5. Real Blackberry software not the imaginary kind that came with my P910i. The buck has been passing back an forth between SE and the networks for way too long. Please just sort it out. I'm aware that it has been released in certain countries and the alternative available. I still can't get Smartner to work.......
On a more personal note I would also like software to track my diet and progress at the gym, MySportsTraining on the Pocket PC/Palm looks very good. If there are any developers reading this could you please keep us Mac users in mind when making desktop companions to mobile software.
So why don't I just switch to a Pocket PC or Palm device? I have been considering the Treo 650 but I am a loyal UIQ user and have upgraded faithfully ever since my P800. It's been my experience that the anticipation is usually better than the device that actually comes out, saying that I am really looking forward to what surprises SE have in store for us.

I coudn't get smartner to work either and also hacked off that Vodafone UK / SE / RiM can't seem to work out who is responsible for getting blackberry sorted. Each one blames the others

its all about hardware.... software can be downloaded if you need it...
Think about it, if the P1000 didnt have standard hardware that most Pxxx users want (eg wifi, megapixel cam etc) I dont think it would sell very well
..so you see, adding more software is not a smart idea imo since it can be downloaded from the net if you need it

I think you misunderstood me, I check online everyday hoping for a glimpse of the new hardware and I agree with the majority on what it should include all I'm saying is without the right kind of third party software a device can be a letdown. My wish list of software wasn't directed at SE, apart from an enhanced messaging application. It was meant for the people that develop software for UIQ and the P series. Of course you need the hardware to run the applications, what I'm saying is the kind of applications that currently exist, in my opinion can't really compete with what is on offer for other platforms. So I'm hoping with new hardware and OS we will get more mature and functional applications that enhance our handsets.

It has to do with software in general, Smartner being one of them. This software once installed is supposed to enhance the functionality of my device. In my case and quite a few other by what I read it doesn't. I am trying to make the point that it is the software more than anything that makes or breaks a device.

I was kinda lost about the referrence to Smartner. When Smartner is uttered I think of Duality software. That said I thought its only objective was to provide push email. Although I have been notified that a new release will allow calendar sync as well, but the release is already 1 week overdue. I do understand your point about software though. I just think you're just in the wrong market where developers really don't capitalize on the capabilities of the phone to go above and beyond what the consumer expects. Which is why I'm always excited to use my Foma and other SE Eastern marketed handsets when I can because I'm allowed to perform the ordinary task like conference a video call, watch satellite television, get gps navigation routes by punching in a phone #, and pay for snacks in a vending machine with the same handset. All that is software driven and the network providers beyond all means to make the features accessibile.

I have been using Smartner with no problems what so ever. I upgraded my phone from the Blackberry 7100t to the P910a. I must say I am happier with the Smartner's Always-On Mail than I ever was with the Blackberry solution.
