I assume there is no one single Puzzles and Riddles Thread in Mighty Esato yet. Though search returned a few. Thought I'd start one exclusive thread. Post all Your Puzzles and Riddles Here.

Three years back i received an e-mail from a friend which Simply said:

"There are only 3 words in English Language that end in 'GRY'.. One is 'HUNGRY'. The other is 'ANGRY'. What's the third?"

It's been 3 years since this e-mail drove me crazy. I have Scanned thorugh dictionaries hoping i might glimpse the answer somewhere. But Nope. No luck. It's like an unsolved mistery to me.
So if any of u guys have received this mail and/or know the answer please enlighten me.

its not as easy as just listing another word.
i read this somewhere, and this is a riddle of the american language that has been unawnsered for years and years. the awnser is in the question itself... thats all i know... if i can find a link expaining this better, where i read it, then I will.

i was reading my links below... and somehow "language" seems to be a popular awnser... because the riddle says... what is the third word in 'the english language'... so people say language is the awnser...

did a google search for " There are only 3 words in English Language that end in 'GRY' "

heres one... http://www.fun-with-words.com/word_gry_angry_hungry.html

another... but doesnt help much... http://www.usingenglish.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-183.html

another... http://www.faqs.org/qa/qa-6669.html

ok yeah.. thanks... it's all coming back to me now.. i had forgotten about the "I have already told you about the third word" part of the puzzle.. i do recollect one of my freinds explaining why "Language could be the answer"... just didn't remember that today... Thanks..the first link was pretty comprehensive.

when this was originally written, "language" was not the correct awnser. It was a very hard riddle, and it was mind boggeling, but over the years and years, the riddle changed, and now noone knows the EXACT real riddle

Ok.. here's another puzzle that i just can't understand:

3 friends go to a restaurant and order 3 cups of tea. The bill amounts to 30 bucks. So each guy pays with a 10 buck note.
10 + 10 + 10 = 30

Now, the hotel manager is a friend of one of the guys and decides to give them a 5 buck concession. So he sends back 5 bucks with the waiter. The friends divide the 5 bucks by keeping 1 buck each and give the remaining 2 bucks as tip to the waiter.
1 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 5

So now to summarize the total amount that the friends have spent:
Each friend initially gave a 10 buck note, but got 1 buck back. So effectively they spent 9 bucks each. Plus a 2 buck tip to the waiter.

9 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 29.

So why doesn't this add up to 30? where did the 1 buck go?

I hope i made myself understood... i guess it's a play on words that i just don't get..

PS: if there is an ongoing puzzle thread here that i don't know about, then i'd gladly shift this post there.

@oog: this is an old one, I' m sure you know the answer yourself.

* The original cost of the drink was 10 bucks a head.
* After the 5 bucks discount the cost was 25/3 bucks per head.
* The waiter recieved 2/3 bucks per head.
* Total expenditure is 25/3 + 2/3= 27/3 = 9 bucks per head.
* They have pocketed 1 buck per head.
* So, 9+1=10, which is the intial amount per head that they shelled out. .

@oog it should NOT add up to 30. Look at this: (10+10+10)-5=(9+9+9)-2=25. Since they got back 5 bucks, effective payment made is 25. This message was posted from a T230

hey thanks.. didn't know the answer yet... i know it's an old one, but i always was amazed by it... i just can't figure out where the words have been twisted in my version, because it still sounds logical... makes it sound as if the total is actually 29... Maybe there are different ways to put it down.. like your fractionated version i guess.. .. but still i can see no wrong in the framing of words in the original puzzle.

I am male.
Add a letter and make me female.
Add another letter and make me male again.
Add another 3 letters and make me female again.

Guess the four words.
