> De-branding for dummies?
Bookmark topic
Despite my extensive knowledge of mobile telecommunications, I have no idea when it comes to de-branding a phone...
Where can I find a decent step-by-step guide to de-branding a Sony Ericsson phone, for someone with no knowledge of de-branding whatsoever?
And before you say it, I can't search the forum- I'm accessing this from my phone!

Hello,
First of all choose your weapon.
1. EMMA II - Official SEMC server that can service SE phones. Costs maybe around 3000 euros
2. Cruiser - Standalone software - no internet connection needed - costs around 250+ euro
3. Setool Standalone - Standalone software - No internet connection needed $199 USD (UFS box needed)
4. Total Multi Server - "logger" - internet connection needed - Uses T28 cable. Very cheap logs or credits for decustomizing/unlocking
5. Davinci Team - "logger" - internet connection needed - uses T28 cable - can use Sony Ericsson DSS-25 sync station. Very cheap credits
Ok well those are the main players.
Next lets talk about the makeup of SEMC firmware.
Basically (to keep it simple) there are 2 parts:
1. Main firmware, contains all instructions and other very important things.
2. File system (commonly known as FS) comes in 2 forms
- Full File System Image - used to debrand and repair
- Signed File archive (SFA) contains bug fixes and languages etc
Ok, next to debrand: (all of the products named above use the same concept)
You need to purchase 1 credit (if using a logger) then download the firmware from the products support area.
You need a Main firmware file and an FS file
Which ones? well, You need to choose the right combination for your region and langauge. (best to ask when you get there)
Ok so you just need to select these files in the software and flash them.
Now there is one more important thing - Finalizing / completeing the phone
Make sure when flashing you have selected the option to finalize or complete the flash - otherwise when you turn the phone you will get a configuration error and phone can be used until you finalize it.
I have tried to keep it quite simple but somehow i think i may not have succeeded

1. I don't understand this "logger/buy credit" business
2. What's the best software to use; what's the most popular and what's the easiest?
3. Where can I get the above software from?
4. Do the firmware files come with the purchase of the software, do I have to download them from the developers site or from somewhere else?
4. What hardware (aside from the phone) do I need? I have a Z1010, the included USB data cable and a CSS-25 stand...

These people are good.
http://www.davinciteam.com/
you download the program v12.8
http://www.davinciteam.com/client.zip
Then pay for credits using buy instant credits at the top of the Davinci site page.
Once paid you will receive a user name and password to use the program, gain access to flash files and also be able to unlock SE phones.
You can use a SE DSS-25 or T28 service cable with this site.
Pretty easy to use once you've done it once

Don't make the mistake i did the first time, make sure your battery is fully charged...

DaVinci is free?
Roughly how much do credits cost?
I was gonna look at the official Sony Ericsson software, but at $AU5000, I think I'll pass or "find" it else where (;-))...

Where can I get a T28 cable and a DSS-25 Sync Station from?
Are they regular "public" accessories that I can buy pretty much anywhere, or service center-type accessories that I can only buy from certain places (eg. online)?

DSS-20 (and DSS-25) are generally available in UK etc but a little harder to find in Australia
for example
here but at an expensive AUD$79.95 (thats about £33) whereas they can be had in UK on ebay for around £10-£15
I had a look and there are none available on ebay Australia unfortunately
