no, so far I have not seen anyone able to change the startup or shutdown screens on the P900 or P910 although it was possible on the P800 because it was not in ROM. I guess thats when and why operators started putting them in ROM so that they couldn't be changed.

I guess it would be possible to edit a firmware in some way and reflash it but it would be a little risky and as I said, I haven't heard of anyone succeeding in doing that

thats a shame, it seems the more update the phone is the less customisable it becomes

Not sure about this but:

If a file with the same name (but, presumably different contents) was placed in the C: drive, would this get precedence over the ROM one?

I seem to remember this was the case on my old Psion 5 when I updated the spreadsheet - Because the ROM could not be upgraded in that, the patch was a complete new application in C that was before ROM in the search path.

I haven't tried this myself though ...

This was taken of the "Droll" website. I take no responsibility for anything.

Changing the P800 startup/shutdown animations

The startup and shutdown animation on the P800 can be cutomized by having 240x320 resolution .mp4 files.

Use the file manager program and create a folder called sysdata in drive c: (ie. c:\sysdata) and copy the files in that folder called startup.mp4 and/or shutdown.mp4 respectively. The same rules need to be followed as with creating any other .mp4 file for the P800.

Warning: If the .mp4 file is not correctly formatted or uses a codec or codec setting that is different from the ones used in the startup/shutdown .mp4s, the phone will hang and you won't be able to use the phone.

Spooky. I was just moving some files ready for my P900 to P910 firmware upgrade and found 3 files in the A drive Sysdata folder and im sure all you have to do is replace the 2 MP4 files and the WAV files and bobs your uncle you should have different startup & Shutdown screens.

When I had my P800 I changed the startup to a Simpsons MP4 but cant remember how I did it.
