Following on from our look at Sony ericsson testing lab today we look at Siemens testing lab and see how they compare to sony ericsson's own phone tests.

These are some of the 20 basic tests used to test the quality of all Siemens handsets.

Keypad Test: Mobile phone keys must be able to withstand the demands of popular SMS messaging. This is why the keys on the new devices are pressed up to 400,000 times in the Siemens test lab.

Dust Test: Dust is the enemy of all mobile phones: new devices are sprinkled with (normalized) dust for four days in the Siemens test lab. A microscope is then used to check whether dust particles have gotten in behind the display or into the keypad spaces.

Jeans Test: In the course of the jeans test,Siemens handsets are placed in a pocket several thousand times. In addition to withstanding the hard jeans fabric, the devices must be able to tolerate a mixture of dust, tobacco, fuzz and paper tissues in the Siemens test lab.

Splashwatertest:Especially robust and stabile:the M75 outdoor mobile, for example, from Siemens is sprinkled with water from three different directions for a period of one minute.Outdoor mobile phones are also subjected to special tests.

Vibrationtest:A mobile phone must be able to withstand considerable shaking in the car, for example. For this reason, new devices are placed in a mounting attachment in the Siemens test lab and exposed to vibration for a number of hours.

Temperaturetest: A mobile phone must be able to withstand a lot: during the temperature test (thermo-vibro chamber) performed in the Siemens test lab, each new device is exposed to electrodynamic fluctuations and temperature changes of between minus 25 degrees and plus 85 degrees Celsius over three eight-hour periods.
